Voltage Pictures, the production company behind The Hurt Locker, is gearing up to sue thousands—no, tens of thousands—of individuals who pirated the film online. Get ready for a huge escalation in the war on P2P.

The suit could hit as early as tomorrow, according to The Hollywood Reporter, as Voltage teams up with the US Copyright Group to target those who downloaded the Oscar-winning film without paying. And they've got the ISPs (mostly) on their side:

After filing the lawsuits, the plaintiffs must subpoena ISP records in an effort to match IP addresses with illicit behavior on BitTorrent. According to lawyers at Dunlap's firm, 75 percent of ISPs have cooperated fully. Those that have resisted are mostly doing so, they say, because of the amount of work involved in handing over thousands of names.

Watch your arse boys. Glad I got it from netflix instead >.>

I did not. Kinda crazy though. What are the chances of this sticking to the majority being sued?

This is bullshit. I left my router open for a day or two and I am sure someone must have dl'ed something on it (I had like 15 people on...lol)

I don't know what the hell they did, but I could imagine someone being falsely accused of this.

I wish I'd get a letter. I'd file a trillion-dollar countersuit against the cable company, router company, PC manufacturer, movie industry and Obama for letting shit like this happen. If I remember correctly, the DCMA works both ways and would allow me to do this.

Glad I *gasp* bought the DVD. Oh, and p2p is kinda stupid nowadays. Everything can be found streaming on non-US sites.

That's messed up. Not only did people have to wait god knows how long to torrent to watch a crappy movie, but now they're gonna get sued too?

My last thread I posted about a PSA, IP tracking and torrents got locked up and infractions were handed out.

I recommend everyone not to brag about their torrent collection here so we can have a discussion on this crap for once.

And they would beat you by having more money to spend on lawyers.
