Did anyone read about what THG is pulling on Van Smith?

<<Yeah I'm trying to get some news on how Alesi is doing over there. I'm on the wrong side of the Atlantic for DTM...I'll probably have to wait for the winter to watch re-runs of the season while Speed Channel floods us with NASCAR coverage🙁>>

I was told FoxSports bought SpeedVision and F1 will eventually return to Fox, so far nothing happened and looks like my hopes were too high.

Who cares about THG?

I don't read it because it's a pretty lame place, so I don't really care what kind of infighting is going on over there.

Yeah I'm trying to get some news on how Alesi is doing over there. I'm on the wrong side of the Atlantic for DTM...

If you decide to move (coverage is pretty good in .de 😉) you'd better be done by the 21st of April, since that's the day of the first race (Hockenheim).

DTM itself getting a wee bit more international. Management even figured out it would be a good idea to have an english version of the offical homepage. (should be up and running beginning of April). And there's a decent DTM section over at the venerable Autosport of course.

BTW so far Alesi wasn't bad in testing at all. 0.045 down on Fässler, who's no slouch.

I'll probably have to wait for the winter to watch re-runs of the season while Speed Channel floods us with NASCAR coverage

Can't say I envy you for NASCAR. DTM has become as "silhouette" spec series as well, but I'll watch to see how Jean does. Car should be much better for some nice all wheel drifting than an F1 🙂.

Um.. what was on AMDZONE anyway? Because I didn't see anything about this on from the link provided above...
Could some one post the content of it?

just go to Vans Hardware and it should be near the top of the page.

<<LXi - "Speed Channel" is Fox. They bought out Speedvision last year.>>

So is F1 on Fox now? If so I don't see it... SpeedChannel is available only through the Platinum Digital Cable plan which cost like a billion dollars a month.

THG----------blowss

Did anyone wonder why Tom wants to distance himself from Van in such a blunt way. Why would tom wanna distance himself so much from some article written so long ago that 99% of his viewers are probbably not looking at... Think about it, Hint, it's the 1% that matters.

I so wish Van would get a forum going on his page, even a crappy gamers.com one would do. I think you will find he has more support than one likes to beleive around here.

ANYONE can get support if they really want it. My guess is it has something to do with how/why Van left THG that is causing all the issues. Too bad we don't know what that is, but without that I think it's hard for us to make an informed opinion.

From Van's site homepage:

<< An email thread sent to us by an editor of HardGamers.com demonstrates that Tom's Hardware Guide is guilty of criminal slander. UPDATE: We have discovered a cached Google image of one of Van's articles that Thomas Pabst now fallaciously claims authorship for. Note also how the article summary has been changed, clearly demonstrating the intent of these edits.

UPDATE 2: (3/20/2002) The THG link above no longer works, but takes you to the CPU Guide instead. Apparently, all of my articles have now been yanked from Tom's Hardware. Thanks LB for the information.
>>

That update shows that Tom has (probably) consulted his lawyers and - WITHOUT CHANGING THE ARTICLE CREDIT - simply REMOVED all Van's articles from his site - which IS legal.

EDIT: Do you agree with Van who claims he was Pabstsmeared ? 🙂

No no, Tom DID remove Van's name from the articles Van wrote, that much is as clear as daylight (well, was clear as daylight, as Tom has now removed all of Van's articles). Tom even inserted HIS own name in place of Van's in one of Van's articles. That too has been removed from THG.

All in all, I'd say Tom is fu*king up big time here. Van kinda deserves it, but that doesn't make it right...
