Shocking, I know.

This is what happens when you give police powers to an agency without external oversight. Worst part is that it's not like these are just two low level people screwing around, that would be bad but you will have some of that no matter how heavily you oversee something. In this case these people brought up these problems to their superiors and were told to do it anyway.

This is why you don't trust an agency to police itself.

Yep, it's been slowly coming for years.

Everyone seems to think that little bit won't add up, until it all finally hits them and then they will complain about it.

I was against it to begin with, because I'm more American than the Americans who supported it. It's a discrace.

Last time I checked, Obama voted for the updated legislation on this issue, so we're left with no good option......

Watch, when it's done under Obama, they'll say it's for the better of our country.

I believe you are correct there. I can only hope (pun intended) that he would change his tune if he gets elected.

So why did so many here slam Obama when he voted for the new FISA legislation?

Pretty sure we saw this coming as the Bush Admin openly admitted they were listening in on international calls that originated from foreign lands to people within the country.

Sadly many of us(me included) tended to side with security and let the system vet itself.
Lesson learned. They need to have a warrant imo.

American spy agencies spying on American citizens? Say it ain't so. This has been going on as long as there have been American spy agencies and it's not likely to change, ever.

We are "spreading freedom and democracy" overseas while totally destroying our own at home.

Government at work.

Because he deserved the Criticism. He did it for pure political reasons because he cared more about eliminating the Republican attacks than standing up for what was right. He is a politician............

He most certainly did deserve it. It just makes JS80's claim that when Obama is president people here will support the NSA program seem pretty flimsy.

Obama is not pursuing a bid for dictatorship, and no they wouldn't support him if he was.

Please don't go down the "control of all 3 branches simultaneously is a dictatorship" path.

This news of abuse of the program is just what is needed to but all programs back under monitoring of the FISA courts and force warrants.

I was against this before and I think that supporting the immunity was the greatest mistake Obama has thus far made. I hated that decision and mentioned it at the time. It was a terrible sellout. He's still better than those who really championed it.

Don't bother to tell me you don't like my song or my singing or my playing. Just note the lyrics to the second half of the second verse:

All the forces of war were compelling,
And blacker than Colin, the Knight,
And the lies they were telling, they sell in the name of their savior.

And they silence the voices arising,
From those who would show us the light,
With their guys with their spies in the skies watching you and your neighbor.

And Who's Watching Over Who's Watching Over You?
Tell me who's telling who's telling you what to do what to do?

The bad news is, it wasn't paranoia.

IIRC the reason Obama voted for the FISA legislation was because he didn't feel the Telcos should be held accountable when the Feds who directed them weren't. I completely agree there.

Maybe because he's the lesser of 2 evils by a long shot?
