Did Anyone Have Trouble With Their 550 Athlon?

I had a 550 that would overheat and crash if there was no cooling. Is cooling mandatory for ALL Athlons? I have a Slot-A 900 T-Bird now.

you do have cooling heatsink/fans on the slot a t-bird right?

Oh, yeah, big-@$$ one now. I'm going to be getting one of those 3-fan w/heatsink coolers off of eBay soon...or maybe the golden orb.

The golden orb isn't all that good. And yes, all Athlons need active cooling.

If you're referring to the ugly-ass triple fan system on e*bay for $13.99, I'd skip it. It's only got a C/W of .56 - Crappy. Go for a Taisol.. Not too much more money and a much better system. Look at the main anandtech page - If you search, there's a great heatsink/fan review that you should read.

ur yeah. no cooling on an athlon = at the very best stability problems, at the very worst house burnt down. luckily you now have a proper house saving device.
