Did Android flagship phone makers (except Samsung) lose the plot on size?

There is a size queen issue about phones that IMO comes from Asia, where bigger screens are implicitly superior. I am sick of it too, there should be a few android flagships that aren't boats. S6 has awful battery life though.

I blame Qualcomm for their poopy S810 SoC

The popularity of the larger phone sizes in Asia is in part due to the phone being their primary means of internet access and media consumption. If you do not have a powerful desktop or tablet at home then a large screen on your mobile does not seem like such a big downside.

For me, I need some sort of case on my phone since I am always dropping it I feel like. 5.5 screen phones and up are tolerable without a case, and I really do like the screen for watching movies, but one handed use becomes tricky on phones this size especially when you add in a case.
If there is an easy way to get the new Moto X Play in the states maybe I'll go that route.
