Pretty much all music lyrics make no sense. Same with album cover art. That's assuming I can even figure out what they're singing (I almost never can).

I'd wager that we don't listen to music because we expect it to make sense. We each derive different things from music, but a display of what "makes sense" isn't among them.

I think part of the point with 90s alt rock was to be vague. I loved all of it, though. I have a Pandora station dedicated to it.

I'm a little disappointed that "Jebus disappoints" is a leading poll choice.

I never listened to popular 90s music.

You might have some problems with stuff before the 50s. Outside of pure novelty songs, I think they all made sense.

1936

I love to sing-a
About the moon-a and the June-a and the spring-a,
I love to sing-a,
About a sky of blue-a, or a tea for two-a,
Anything-a with a swing-a to an "I love you-a,"
I love to, I love to sing!

Give me a song-a
About a son-a gun that went and done her wrong-a.
But keep it clean-a,
With a cottage small-a by a waterfall-a,
Any sob-a that will throb-a to a bluebird's call-a,
I love, I love to sing!

I was born a singin' fool-a,
Lah-de-dah!
Ol' Major Bowes is gonna spot me,
Got through Yale with boula-boula,
Lah-de-dah!
Old microphone's got me!

I love to sing-a,
I love to wake up with the south-a in my mouth-a,
And wave a flag-a,
With a cheer for Uncle Sammy and another for my mammy,
I love to sing!

That all makes sense. It's just about someone who loves to sing-a.

Guessing the next to last verse is just a bunch of period-specific references that don't make sense in a modern context.

This is why I prefer songs in languages I don't understand. The lyrics may be really stupid but I'm happy because I don't know how stupid they are.

A lot of people I know love this band...and due to peer pressure I even tried for a really long time to like them. I can't. THEY FUCKING SUCK ASS.

yeah... uh... "Primus Sucks" is something their fans say. They don't suck. Primus kicks ass. you fail at life.

Listening to Yellow Ledbetter, for example, I get the impression the guy is just making shit up as he goes along.

Well I remember seeing a documentary about Nirvana and Cobain said he wrote song lyrics by just putting together phrases he thought sounded cool.

So no it probably didn't and doesn't make any sense.

That covers about 95% of the songs ever written in the entire history of mankind. :)

90's music - seemed to be depressing "we suck, you suck, everyone sucks".

LOL....what is it with all these 90's bands getting back together....
Gwen was sick of him sponging off her millions.

(speaking of mosquito bites, poor girl would wear a wonderbra to push up her other wonderbra and still have nothing. But damn if I don't still think she is one of the sexiest women ever...)
