Wouldn't even dream of sugar coating it: the world is better off all around without him. Shame it didn't happen much sooner when it could have made a bigger difference.

Too bad he didn't drag Liz to hell with him
What?! After she served on the Jan 6 Committee and her vocal opposition to Trump, I was grateful to Liz Cheney. When her father came out in support of Harris and disowned Trump, I was able to forgive years of disdain I had for his "service".

I pretty much agree with all the positions taken here so far on this thread, and I could even lift a glass and toast his passing with the rest. But the Cheneys spoke out, and Trump is worse than even I predicted he would be back in 2016. This is a state of national emergency. I don't "forgive" Trump; I don't "forgive" the MAGA or Trump's cabinet; I don't forgive the limp and inactive GOP congressmen or their senators. But I can still forgive the Cheneys, not much different than my "forgiveness" to Robert McNamara after publication and movie release of "The Fog Of War".

I'm not big on forgiveness as a "Christian" virtue. And I prefer to keep the "Christian" out of my political belief and actions, or otherwise limit its application to those of different or no faith. Personally, I somewhat eagerly await the beginning of civil war hostilities so I can go out on my horse and murder whole GOP families, their dogs, cats, chickens and horses under an absence of Rule of Law. But I appreciate those of the opposition who've seen the error of their ways.

The newsmen just noted that Cheney's "legacy" is "complicated". I agree with that, too, given the dire circumstances today.

Fuck the Cheneys, they were a huge part of this nation's descent into fascism. There is no such thing as a moderate republican. She voted with the fuhrer all the time. She and her piece of shit father worked to turn this nation into the oligarchy it now is and then she wants to act like Trump is some surprise? She only gives a shit because Trump is an outright prick who says the quiet part out loud and is thus bad for optics in turning this nation over to the billionaires. Same as Romney. Fuck that war criminal and his enabling daughter.

Maybe you're right about that. I was just happy that they flipped. To be honest, everything you say about their orientation over the last several decades is true. The war in Iraq seems as if it were just like yesterday to me, and I blame them all -- it was not a necessary use of our resources. They should've raised taxes if they wanted it. I was screaming about it, writing letters to Senator McCain, who responded with this drivel of lies about Saddam and his WMDs.

Yeah . . .

Cheney's blood lust and lies cost 4,431 U.S. service members and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians their lives. Cheney's lying to Reagan extended the Cold War and squandered hundreds of billions on a pointless arms race. Cheney sliding into the grave, never being held accountable for his actions, puts the lie to American promises made at Nuremberg.

It has certainly been a history that lacked the necessary accountability. I may have opposed everything, but accepted the outcomes as the manner in which our system worked. Of course, since they elected the Criminal the first time, I couldn't accept any of it.

What do most of us do? We go on with our lives, vote in elections and try to live with the outcomes. Of course, since 2016, you had to be a bit slow to change attitudes. It was so obvious, even beginning middle of 2015.

I was today years old when I learned that, beyond all the above, when Cheney was in congress, he voted AGAINST putting sanctions on South Africa in the 80's to try to force them to abandon Apartheid and release Mandela from prison.

May he rest in Hell. Well, on second thought, may he rest in someplace worse than hell, like Mar a Lago or under Trump's bed.

"The truth is in the middle."
Saying that they flipped is being way generous. They are very staunch political conservatives, even if they beefed with DJT. Yes, the Cheneys stood with the Constitution in 2024. That should be a requirement for all public servants, not something to actively cheer just because the Guardians of Pedophiles are now all Trump-fearing sychophants.

As for Dick Cheney, just because he said the right things about the 2024 presidential election doesn't change his entire record as VP. As this thread asserts, there's nothing "complicated" about his legacy.
