Diaper duty for Calif. taxpayers? Bill would create new welfare program

California is weighing a first-of-its-kind welfare program that would subsidize diapers for needy families

Assembly Bill 1516, written by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, a Democrat from San Diego, would create the taxpayer-backed program within the state's existing welfare network, called CalWORKs (California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids).

When it passed recently out of the California Assembly, no Republican voted for it.

Gonzalez, a single mother herself, said she first learned that residents can’t buy diapers with food stamps from an Eminem song off the soundtrack to the 2002 movie "8 Mile." Under those programs, diapers -- along with cigarettes, alcohol and pet food -- are prohibited purchases.

People on welfare shouldn't be having kids, and we shouldn't be subsidizing their ability to have kids.

If you're too poor to feed your existing family, you probably shouldn't be making your situation worse.

Responsibility...it's not just a word.

Should we be subsidizing the ability of middle class to have kids with tax deductions?

Ah. Another liberal who doesn't understand what welfare is.

You would think with how much they care about they would try and learn what it actually is.

You can't eat diapers :colbert:
Apparently some communists believe you can. I can see this sailing through and becoming law pretty quick. When I left that loony state a few years back they had just made EBT cards acceptable at fast food establishments.

At least its not like jury duty. We dont have to show up at the homes of welfare recipients and replace their babies diapers while they watch TV. Its just extorting more cash to fund the spending needs of democrat voters.

Not quite as you present it:

"The California Restaurant Meals Program allows eligible homeless, disabled, and/or elderly (ages 60 and above) CalFresh benefit recipients to use their CalFresh benefits to purchase hot, prepared food from participating restaurants."

Anyone who hasn't noticed ebt accepted signs at fast food places either lives in a sane state, a bubble of ignorance, or is just another loonbag.

Are you suggesting that Pizza Hut is not a fine dining establishment?

Can you not read?

"The California Restaurant Meals Program allows eligible homeless, disabled, and/or elderly (ages 60 and above) CalFresh benefit recipients to use their CalFresh benefits to purchase hot, prepared food from participating restaurants."

As usual you double down on stupid and prove you can't follow.anything.

How does that make the statement you were saying wasn't as presented not true?

California (and several other states) allow people to purchace fast food with ebt, exactly as stated. You're such a dumb, argumentative dipshit.

Person 'A' makes a statement that implies anyone with an EBT card can go to any fast food restaurant for a meal.

I provide information that shows only a certain, very specific, subsection of people are able to do so and only at specifically designated restaurants (some of which are fast food outlets).

That make me "owned"?

You certainly have a unique perspective on life.

You are truly a rude, foul mouthed little individual. Nice to be anonymous isn't it.

Why are diapers considered the same as cigarettes?

I am pretty sure that they aren't considered the same as cigarettes. I'm also pretty sure that diapers aren't food. If you would like to post a video of you personally proving me wrong by eating a diaper I will be more than happy to apologize and recant.

If they are going to fund diapers, why don't they supply them with cotton washable diapers.

Then they could reuse them.

Then again I think this is just another Stupid California Idea.
