Diane Rehm's political bias is showing

Gee, Craig didn't think the Diane Rehm show was biased. Surprise surprise.

I generally like NPR, but the DR show can admittedly be a bit much sometimes. Morning Edition & All Things Considered are pretty much the best news you can get on the radio.

I listened to the first several minutes and heard nothing inappropriate, this was one of those 'the facts have a liberal bias' things that create baseless rage in the right.

Unfortunately, there's not a single liberal tv person I can think of who doesn't have a voice that's unpleasant - Maddow, Olbermann, O'Donnell. Radio is mostly better.

I don't care about the others, but I actually liked Olbermann's voice. It's the only reason I could really ever watch him since being on the political left I don't like extreme partisan hackery from my media pundits like the right does.

Diane Rehm isn't anywhere close to Rush Limbaugh... that's ridiculous.

I've also heard her let her bias slip out a few times.

Vladimir Lenin wasn't as extreme biased as Rush is.

There were NO facts spouted. She was purely saying "You should be outraged! You should be marching on washington!". That is not fact, that is opinion.

I really don't care about the voice, I care about the facts. When shows start to depart from the facts, I stop listening.

Olbermann has a very nice voice speaking normally; it's when he gets into exaggerated sarcasm and things it starts to get grating and hard to listen to.

After checking her site, doesn't look to be a news show... so who gives a shit if she voices an opinion?

I listen to NPR because it usually has pretty good journalistic standards. They don't generally just complain about how bad the other guys are (rightwing talk radio) but rather mention what is going on. When I've listen to Diane Rehm in the past, even though she is left leaning she usually has some good solid content. This show was terrible, she abandoned all journalistic standards that she has previously had and just went off.

Not really news, just disappointing. I'm wondering if anyone else noticed it.

That's not what I heard. I heard facts, about what happened and which people and groups were saying what and such. I might not have listened far enough, but even if she were saying those things following the groundwork of how the deal violated a group's views, I can see her saying the group should be outraged over it. In fact, there's much for progressives to be outraged over, and arguably the American people generally. The people who have cost our society so much are not the ones being held accountable under this deal.

What Is The 'Ombudsman'?

The Ombudsman is the public's representative to NPR, serving as an independent source regarding NPR's programming.

Exactly, it sounds like she just lost her temper and went off.

At Fox News that would be considered doing your day's work.

Which is why I don't really watch fox any more. Even though I am right leaning, the current crop of right wing media is somewhat abysmal. They simply don't report the issues. They are completely composed of opinion pieces and non-issue topics. They care WAY to much about frivolous things (really, most left leaning media is this way as well.)

I prefer my media to report the issues with as little bias as possible. Let me make up my own mind.

NPR is funded (in part) by tax dollars. The public should not be funding her leftist idiocy any more than it should be funding Rush. Would you be OK with having taxpayer money used to pay to have Rush on the radio?

Fox news is not funded in any way by the taxpayer. They can put on whatever content people want to consume. NPR is supposed to be unbiased since it's funded in part with taxpayer money and has nonprofit status...

Yeah, I've pretty much abandoned FoxNews as well. I'm too old to be pissed all the time, and just old enough to figure out that the same damned outrages happen no matter who's in charge in D.C.

If you can find it, I found ABC Radio News to be freakin' great. Unfortunately our local radio station dropped it in favor of FoxNews Radio News, which isn't that bad but is not of the quality of ABC Radio News. NPR does some good stuff though; they are a bunch of liberals, but they seem to generally try to be accurate and honest.

Who is Diane Rehm?
She's hosts the last intelligent program left on NPR. Yes, she is a liberal and it shows. However she is also willing to ask guests intelligent questions and call them on BS answers. She also gargles with lit cigarettes so it takes effort to get used to her voice. She reminds me of how NPR used to be decades ago before they dumbed everything down.

Really? I find Fresh Air much much better. Terry Gross is definitely left leaning but she would never do something this unprofessional on air such as attack callers or guests.

Get a damn life all you righty tighties, anyone remotely unbiased and middle of the road, sounds like the radical left from the standpoint of the radical right.

If you righty tighties really want to foam at the mouth, there is far more left wing programming to listen to.

But cheer up you righty tighties, you have so many Limbaugh and Limbaugh wantabees to listen to. And if the FCC ever wants to reassert the fairness doctrine, Limbaugh and his ilk won't last five more minutes on public airwaves. As for most other mainstream personalties, they will more than meet the FCC fairness doctrine sniff tests.

As for Fox news, dare I hope, Rupert Murdock will go to jail.

So, I take this to mean that you didn't actually listen to the show in question. Good to know.

Mainly the fact that there were no tax increases. The whole show was her trying to get callers to call in and complain about the situation that we are in.

I don't blame her and other callers for being pissed off over the lack of tax increases for the upper classes. Our nation has serious financial problems and now we're afraid to tax the fortunate people who have benefited from our societal structure in our time of need. When Wall Street banksters are getting ridiculous bonuses and salaries, why shouldn't we tax some of their exorbitant wealth?

Let the people who benefit the most from our form of government and our nation's economic policies foot the bill for it.

I don't know why you guys need to be told the news by some talking head, just read the different news sites and avoid the commentaries. If you want stupid commentarias just read ProJo, Spidey or Craigs posts.

With all due respect to Diane Rehm, it seems to me the neurological condition that makes her voice like that is a disqualifier to being a radio personality. I find her unlistenable due to her voice and so I have never really tried to listen to her program.

I can't say I listen to her much, but what's so annoying about her voice? She just sounds grandmotherly to me.

She is openly a far left liberal beach.. she scolds conservatives on the show all the time. Her voice gives me creeps. Only thing one can take solace on is her age...

Is she that democracy now bimbo? That was the only biased/nonjournalistic program I've ever heard on npr. The rest of pretty cogent.
