Hey, I am proposing to my lady this weekend. ANyone know of any good online places to get diamonds. ANy suggestions on types of diamonds, im jsut a dum guy who plays PS2 and plays with computers, and sometimes myself!!!

Lesse here:

The biggest decision of your life. Possibly two or more months salary. You're giving yourself about two days to shop for it and you know nothing about diamonds.

Yup. I agree with your "dumb guy" assessment of yourself. 😛

Did you read that 'fvck debeers' thread?? There's an old 'Nam vet and some Russians in Florida you should check out...

Well ive been looking here and there, and done a little (real little)research, just seeing what you guys think-2 months salary huh? hmmmmmm. i have money saved up, i want to get ring sometime this weekend

There are the "big stores" like Blue Nile and Mondera. They have a large selection of diamonds and settings, and prices that are better than mall jewelry stores.

Then there are also smaller stores that have even better prices, great service, and typically sell high quality diamonds.
Some of these are SuperbCert, Whiteflash, Good Old Gold, Diamond Brokers of Florida, Abazias, NiceIce, Dirt Cheap Diamonds, and others.

I suggest going to http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb for lots of info and opinions.
BTW, getting anything in your hands by the weekend will be quite difficult.

Yup, read the covery story from the September Wired. The prices of diamonds are artifically inflated mainly because Debeers has stockpiled them and releases them only in limited quantities. That's not to mention "blood diamonds," illegal government contracts, and Pat Robertson.

Impulse buying for a rock? Oh boy.
This is going to be a well thought out, long lasting marriage.

Seriously how the fvck can a company like that possibly GET away with it?

If this was MS and they had outright BOUGHT all the programmers in the world and didn't let them work for anyone else........................

Maybe someone should start a p2p for diamonds 😛 😎

blah blah blah Debeers sucks blah blah blah diamonds suck. Ok, STFU everyone, we already know this, this guy knows this, its been going on overkill lately.

1) You are being flamed because you don't have the ring in your possession yet, bad idea 🙂

I hate to break it to you, but most places that sell diamond rings take at LEAST a week to size the ring first. Do you even know what size of a ring she wears?

Good luck.....

Yet another example of how socially inept so many ATers are.

You're going to buy an engagement ring without even looking at it? Go to the damn jewelry store!

WHy is this ninja cursing at me.

I got my wife's engagement ring diamonds at the Diamond Source here in Scottsdale, AZ. They also have a store in LA. They are a diamond broker, and sell for WAY less than the retail places. I've referred most of my friends and co-workers there as well. Very upscale and trustworthy place. If I ever had to buy a diamond again (and I pray that I don't!!!), I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them.

Buy a 52" Plasma monitor instead....some day she might understand. I hate diamonds.

<< wasted approx $800 on diamond jewelry for girlfriend of 4 years so far. Shiny things are stupid.

i don't understand why an impulsive nature would imply a disastrous marriage. maybe an irresponsible nature but not an impulsive one. but even at that, you can learn to be responsible.

i bought a ring over the course of 2 days on an impulse. did one day of research on what the cut, clarity, carat and color meant then just went shopping. found one on day 2. i didn't know my fiancee's ring size but the store told me they resized free of charge for the lifetime of the ring so i just bought the cut, color, clarity and carat i wanted and just brought my fiancee back after the weekend to have it resized. they even told me that if we wanted to go an entirely different route concerning the style, in case my fiancee didn't like it, that that was no problem.

of course it took some good spending for them to be so friendly.

either way, good luck and definitely do your research just so that you don't get shafted.
