I am looking for cheap sound card to power my Klipch 4.1's. Any body know about this card? Or better card for a 4.1 system that is under $20.00? Running XP. Link

Cookdog,

You just spent ~$300 for speakers. IMHO, you should spend about $40 more dollars and get this for $61.

From what I have read on this board, it is a great card for the money.

I might go that way. I'm also considering the Audio Excel CMI8738 people have been posting about. I got the speaker system free by the way but that is another story.

the CMI stuff should be fine, especially for under $20. the 5.1 CMI 8738 chip is the on-board audio for my soyo dragon+ mobo. pretty decent. haven't done any comparisons with sb live or tb santa cruz, but it works decent enough without having to buy anything else.

i have a phillips rhythmic edge and i have been really impressed with its performance. works really well with my logitech z560s... i think i got mine for $20 at bestbuy.

I heard the audigy doesn't like xp pro. It causes a squelling sound and locks up the comp.

I have the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, and love it. Rock solid performance, flawless compatibility with WinXP. Highly recommended.

Yeah, I'm a santa cruz whore. Definitely one sweet card. For sound quality, go with that. But it is pricey. 🙁

Audigy, its creative, its the card you want to get if you bought the speakers to play games. It supports the most audio extensions, with the lowest CPU usage. Of course, creative is not known for their stability w/ via platforms, although if they haven't figured that out by now.

CMEDIA, definitely the low price winner here. Does everything, and does it well. Its a steal for $10-$20. I doubt you could go wrong with that.

The 2 best sound cards I have seen and heard are the C-Media 8738 and the Santa Cruz.
Both will work well with any setup, intel or AMD.

I am running the 5.1 C-Media sound card and it is great.

I'm using NVidia and i guess its not very compatible w/ the CMEDIA because I've run into a lot of problems (popping, scratching, or simply not working) with several different cards using that chip. Anyone know if that Phillips card will have similar problems?

Hi, I was wondering how does the phillips rhythmic edge compare to the turble beach santa cruz? I didn't know phillips rhythmic edge is that cheap, it's only $20?
