Not in my case. 🙂 My fiancee set an upper limit of .75 carats, I think the one I ended up getting was .74. She has small hands and thought a larger diamond would look tacky (it would). She also set an upper limit on how much I should spend because the 2 months salary rule is bunk, and she'd rather save the money for a house. :heart:
you shouldn't think about just the size, but what size fits best for the girl's finger. When you are ready, take a girl who has similar hands to your SO, the girl should be someone who your SO knows the LEAST, then try different rings on that girl's fingers to see what looks best on the hand.

He finally got a car he can be proud of but never put mods on it because of her. She also doesn't let him eat out whenever he wants, only at approved times =\. Well, I asked her how much she wants an engagement ring and she said around 10k. I asked how much for a wedding, she said around 30k. Also, she makes my friend buy only designer name clothes, jeans that cost 90 bucks! But then again, those ball park amounts she gave me is just ideal for her. I think she'd be happy to just marry the guy, I hope.]

I just bought my girlfriend 2TCW princess cut diamond earrings. Bigger is better. Not only does she feel really special, but the women in her family and those she works with are all jealous -- I know because they told her! Even some of the guys in her family commented that they were impressed.

in all honesty, if you can afford it, go with a nice 1ct solitare. classic and it will fit most ladies fingers!

the both have very little money, and she does have a very good concept of money, they both grew up in poor families, I think around the 35k annual income?, she just likes designer clothes. I was just trying to point out how hypocritical she is by not letting her bf buy the things he wants, and yet wear shirts that cost more than my outfit, and wanting a 30k wedding.
i didn't propose. i got proposed to.
we both chose the ring together, so i naturally knew what i was getting.
it was basically right near 1ct in size, and it's beautiful. i don't wear jewelry frequently so something small and simple was what i looked for. (i actually got a 3 stone ring, though -- it's so beautiful)
