what about when color and clarity are the same. then what? woman would want the bigger one right?
colour and clarity aren't the same...

I think he meant: when comparing 2 different engangements rings, and if color & clarity were the same for 'both' ... wouldn't the woman want the larger ct
😀

Not in my case. 🙂 My fiancee set an upper limit of .75 carats, I think the one I ended up getting was .74. She has small hands and thought a larger diamond would look tacky (it would). She also set an upper limit on how much I should spend because the 2 months salary rule is bunk, and she'd rather save the money for a house.

2.25 ct round soltaire
1 ct ear rings
Sapphire necklace and bracelet set
Omega watch
couple of random 24k gold and other jewlery.

That's what I got my wife for engagement/ prior to marriage. I'm not a big fan of diamond but you have to do what you have to do.

Just get here a cubic zirconium they look so real she won't know unless you get a divorce and she tries to pawn it.

Never been married, eh?

you missed my later post:

I got my wife a little over 1ct. certified princess cut for three grand. Now she wears this cubic zirconium ring she bought. Go figure.

OK. Yes, I did.

If I had ever given my wife a cubic zirconium, I would be spending the rest of my life in the dog house with Fred.

you shouldn't think about just the size, but what size fits best for the girl's finger. When you are ready, take a girl who has similar hands to your SO, the girl should be someone who your SO knows the LEAST, then try different rings on that girl's fingers to see what looks best on the hand.

edit:

[I have a friend w/ a gf. His gf nags at him when he buys things that she believes is a waste of money, like spending money on his car. she tells him he waste money. He finally got a car he can be proud of but never put mods on it because of her. She also doesn't let him eat out whenever he wants, only at approved times =\. Well, I asked her how much she wants an engagement ring and she said around 10k. I asked how much for a wedding, she said around 30k. Also, she makes my friend buy only designer name clothes, jeans that cost 90 bucks! But then again, those ball park amounts she gave me is just ideal for her. I think she'd be happy to just marry the guy, I hope.]

I just bought my girlfriend 2TCW princess cut diamond earrings. Bigger is better. Not only does she feel really special, but the women in her family and those she works with are all jealous -- I know because they told her! Even some of the guys in her family commented that they were impressed.

Way to set a precident.... how long have you been married?

Wait until her mom or grandma croaks and get a LifeGem made. Best of all worlds: big real diamond in any color she wants, instant family heirloom, and some poor miner didn't have to get orifice searched everyday of his working life to provide that diamond.

in all honesty, if you can afford it, go with a nice 1ct solitare. classic and it will fit most ladies fingers!

the both have very little money, and she does have a very good concept of money, they both grew up in poor families, I think around the 35k annual income?, she just likes designer clothes. I was just trying to point out how hypocritical she is by not letting her bf buy the things he wants, and yet wear shirts that cost more than my outfit, and wanting a 30k wedding.

i didn't propose. i got proposed to.

we both chose the ring together, so i naturally knew what i was getting.

it was basically right near 1ct in size, and it's beautiful. i don't wear jewelry frequently so something small and simple was what i looked for. (i actually got a 3 stone ring, though -- it's so beautiful)

1.06ct solitaire here. Looks awesome.

Mine is either 1/4 carat or smaller and I love it. Nothing wrong with a simple ring that isn't big and gaudy.
