I recently upgraded my OS to Win 2k and my soundcard does not work anymore. The frustrating thing is that there are no conflicts being shown. Also, the driver seems to be ok too. Does anyone have any idea? I'm sure there are some ways to work around this, and I know people in this board are generally very helpful, so thanks in advance!

I have an MX300 in my Win2k system - Windows installed the driver by itself and it works fine. Also works fine in WinXP using the drivers that came with the OS.

Are you sure your volume isn't turned down? If that's not the problem, try removing and reinstalling the device drivers.

It seems that my Monster MX300 card is sharing the IRQ 9 with a bunch of other stuff like my video card and a few more peripherals. I think that is why it is not working correctly but Windows 2k did not detect the conflict and so I can't change the IRQ of this card to the recommended one ( IRQ 5). Anyways, I think I'll remove the card from this system and use the onboard sound chip instead and put the card into my newer computer.

Thanks for your response.

I think something went wrong when I upgraded my OS from Windows ME to Windows 2k. I put the soundcard on another system running Windows 2k and it worked fine. This sucks as my DVD drive is on the system that has the problem...argh!

Thanks for all your help though.

You're having the great ACPI/Win 2k problem. The card will work fine but you'll have to change the computer from ACPI to Standard PC. On the front page of AT there is a FAQ section that addresses the ACPI question. With my computer, I got stuttering in Unreal Tournament from it and we tried everything to no avail until someone on another forum said to change the ACPI. If you decide to reload Win 2K when you get the screen that say's to hit f6 for RAID or SCSI controllers, press f5 and select the Standard PC option. This will put everything on it's own IRQ and no more hassles!

A little off topic but.....

I had such high hopes for this card in late '98. $300 friggin bux!! and now i can't even get decent drivers for it, what a shame. Everyone in the industry said it had soooo much potential, now it's all wasted :( What the heck happend to Aureal??? yeah, i know, Creative bought them.

So...I just bought a new Audigy(yeah, i gave into the beast)

hey... i had the same problem..tried to work on it for a week with all the archived info with the thousands of others who had the same problem on anandtech. TO NO AVAIL. From what i researched the card should work OK with XP (not as perfect though because what was the actual aureal staff isn't making drivers anymore). With 2k though, if cobysdad solution doesn't work, there doesn't seem to be any hope. I just put mine in an older computer running 98 and bought me a turtle beach santa cruz, which i must say is quite a loveable little guy.

I hope that's not American dollars! I bought mine 2 months after it came out for $99 USD.

Mine works fine in Windows 98, Me, 2000, and XP. Never a problem. Also works well under Linux. However, I always avoid ACPI like the plague, it adds nothing but headaches from what I've seen. Heck, the only thing older than the MX300 in my system is the floppy drive.
