Comcast@Home is trying to send us to NetZero. No thanks.

So what are some good dialup ISP's for us W@HC (Wounded @Home Children...;))? I'm in Indiana if that matters.

All I need is PPP access. Don't want any silly dialer software like AT&T wants me to use, no banners like NetZero has. There's so many mom & pop operations out there that use that big guys to have POP's all over, but I dunno which is good.

They don't have any silly software?

Oh, ouch, pricey! $22/month for unlimited. Hopefully @Home doesn't go under!

I used www.localnet.com back in August right after I moved into my new apartment and was waiting for Comcast to stop dragging their feet. Only $10/month, but they were using level3.net to have a POP in my area and level3.net sucked! I wouldn't get busy signals, but it would just dialup, make a click, and just sit there. Take me 4 or 5 times to finally get through. And once it did, it was slower than molasses in winter. I know what dialup should feel like and this was way slow. And that's why I won't use them again.

I use Yellowstone.net .. $9.95 per month for Unlimited! No special software is needed, just use the Windows Dial Up Networking. I don't know how all of their POPs are but the two by my house aren't too bad ... Very rarely get busy signals. The only bad thing is that their SMTP server is very picky about what e-mail it will allow you to send. I can send e-mails if they are the same as my login name (ex. My login is LiQiCE so I can send e-mails from an e-mail address of LiQiCE@somewhere.com but I can't send e-mails from an e-mail address of Ryan@somewhere.com) and they also block the usage of other SMTP servers. If you solely use Web based e-mail or you Telnet into your e-mail server (like a UNIX box) then you shouldnt have any problems. If you're dependant on SMTP you could either spoof it like I do (just send from LiQiCE@somewhere.com and then make the return address Ryan@somewhere.com or whatever you actually want the person to reply to)... or you'll need to look elsewhere.

BTW- The e-mail addresses and login names I used here are made up, so don't try sending emails to LiQiCE@somewhere.com now ;)

Check the Link at the bottom of my Sig. unlimited access, no busy signals, 17$ a month, webspace, email, etc,
no special software unless you want it.

Check the Number Locator to see if they have it in your area.

They have a bunch in indiana, near all the major cities.

It'll get ya by until you can get broadband again.

I found ISPWest that has a POP here in Muncie, IN, 765 area code. Same as one of the phone numbers listed (st network) on your place, but for a few dollars less.

Yeah, most likely true. Just a suggestion, really. Wherever you guys go, you should support the smaller businesses. With our economy, we need to keep our money in america, not some huge conglomerate ISP that farms out their tech support to india, (Not mentioning any names) taking away jobs from Americans. Smaller
ISPs give you the same or better service, a lot of times for less, plus, you keep the money here, where it belongs. Not India or South America.

I use AT&T worldnet - $16.95 per month....it's only 150 hours but it's more than enough for me.

Plus, I can use either the software or DUN to get on. :)

If you are looking for better then dialup, look at sattilite. Very expensive, but can be installed anywhere. As for ISPs for dialup; I used ATT Worldnet for 2 years and found them to be the absolute best i had seen. They offered great rates, and great connection speeds.

anyways, pacbell seemed to work well when i used it on occasion.

I used Bellsouth Dialup for two years in Atlanta, before I got DSL. No problems w/ them. I figured the phone company up here would be good. Wrong. Ameritech has some partnership w/ Prodigy and sends you to them when you click on links for dialup access. Barf.

So anyone in da souf could look into them. I imagine they're still good.
