Dialing down CPU cooling fans any ideas?

I have a pair of Dragon Orb3 coolers and as we all know the 7000 prm fans are a bit much to listen to. What is the possibility of rewiring the connector for 7volts - is that doable or am I dreaming? Anyone want to weigh in on this one?

If you connect the +5V wire to the black wire on the fan, and disconnect the black wire from ground, it will run at 7V. If you dont understand cause I'm no explaining things like this, other people know how to do it and are more eloquent than I.

sounds promising just what some of us need who don't want to buy new cooling fans. Let us know how it progresses meanwhile I forgot I have a Digital Doc 5 I haven't opened yet. I'll probably use that for now.
