dial-up recognition problems

I posted this in the tech support section too, but i wondered if anyone in here would know anything else.
Sorry for the repost though, no harm intended.

I use dial-up with WinXp. Recently I noticed that while connected to the internet, I look at my network connections and it says Im disconnected. Also, I am not able to access the properties of this connection. I want to re-enable my firewall and I cant. Any suggestions?

Is there an integrated network card in your motherboard? or a regular PCI Nic in your computer? If so, what your seeing as being disconnected could be XP telling you your Local area connection is unused. I see this alot with Lappies with XP on them. The user thinks theres something wrong and come to find out its just that XP recognizes there isnt a LAN connection, and the dialup is in use.
