dial up gaming

Hi,

My 56k modem connects at 48k and in CS:S pings about 180+. I am posting to make sure UT2004 doesn't have punkbuster because from my experience PB destroys dial up. I am also wondering If anyone has any experience on dial up with UT and if they could tell me their thoughts on how well I would be able to run the game, if it would be fun etc. Thoughts on the game itself welcome also.

As long as you don't have any dropped packets, it will be playable.

You'll just be a HPB.

How do I tell if i get dropped packets?

boot up into dos and in c:> type format c:

hit 'Y' when prompted and boom, there you go.

That was lame 7 years ago.

In UT2004, if you press F1 it'll bring up player stats, and it'll usually list packet loss "P/L" If not you can press F6 and it will display many stats, the third one I think is packet statistics. I for one wouldn't even bother playing it on dial-up, because any ping above 100 completely ruins the game for me (I usually play instagib games, and any lag is extremely detrimental in those types of situations).
