Diablo2 - What game type is it classified as?

It's a point-n-kill.
But it's also a PUZZLE game since the biggest challenge is figuring out how to stuff all your useless crap into your inventory.

if defies classification. It is not a real good rpg and its not a good arcade game. Of course I hated the original for that reason and never bothered with diablo 2 so I could be wrong. Judging by the other replies I don't think I am too far off..

Disagree. D2X is amazing. I am spending hours on end playing it. The biggest difference between D2X and CD is that there are different character classes. Whole different ball game than CD.

RPG, strategy, with all the different character classes.
