Diablo III?

We received an email today from a Diablo fan and classical musician in the Czech Republic.

"I am musician in Czech Republic. I play not with one orchestra but with many depending on work. I have recently been to Bratislava in Slovak Republic for recording sessions with local Radio Symphony Orchestra, where we just recorded music for Diablo 3."

For some historical perspective, check the Battle.net page with the D2X:LoD bonus mp3s. Scroll down a bit and you can read news and see pictures from Blizzard's recording session for the D2X music, held in Bratislava, Slovakia, with the Slovak Radio Philharmonic. Those sessions were carried out in early 2001, before the game's release that June, so perhaps D3 is further along than we've been assuming? Either that or they're recording the music earlier in the game's production cycle than they did for D2X.

Fake? Very possible. But what temps me to beleive this is the fact that I remember about 2 E3's ago, someone at Blizzard slipping about how their R&D was working on tech for DIII. God, can you imagine the utter destruction Blizzard would wreak unto the world with both WoW and DiabloIII available?!?

Update: More from the musician:

I did not find the people from Blizzard in the studio, but composer (Ulman?) was there and conductor was named Kirk Trevor, I think he is from England but he conducts in Bratislava much and also in some other cities in Czech Republic like Zlin.

The music is again, like in Diablo 2 expansion, very much based on Wagner. In Diablo 2 expansion there are many plases in Act 5 that take directly from Wagners opera "Tristan and Isolde". This time for Diablo 3 there was music similar to Wagner operas "Lohengrin" and also "Siegfried" from Ring cycle. But this is not so bad that he takes from these things, almost all movie composers borow Wagner music, like Williams for Star Wars and others like Nino Rota who made music for Fellini's films.

So now when Diablo 3 is finished I must buy, maybe I will hear all my mistakes (I play percusion instruments).

me too... I think blizz hates SC fans... :(
No sh!t. How long has it been now? 7 years or so? Kinda sad that we thought we would be playing Duke Nukem Forever before the original Starcraft even came out :p.

Oh well, it might be best if a Starcraft 2 never did get released. I can't imagine a game living up to the original's infinite replayability and balance. I would almost want to see a Diablo III just because I'm worried SC2 wouldn't be "good enough". (You'd think I have complete faith in Blizzard by now :p)

Didn't some of the key people from BLIZZARD: North (the best part of BLIZZARD) leave the company to form Arena.net... ie: the people who did GuildWars?

If that's the case, I wouldn't get your hopes up about Blizzard producing many quality products for a while, unless they bring in some real talent.

Blizzard recently hired one of the head project managers over LOTR: battle for middle earth(he also worked for westwood) They didn't say which game he was hired on to develop, but he is taking on a new RTS game, we can only hope SC:2. I can't believe how long blizzard has left us without anything of good since Starcraft. My favorite part of starcraft is that it worked on everyones computer and went fast, along with the balance of the different teams.

I was actually waiting for Starcraft: Ghost.

But the possibility of Diablo 3? Damn, where's my copy of Diablo 2 and the expansion?

Omg Blizzard if this is true that you are indeed making diablo 3 before starcraft 2 you will get petrol bombed. Starcraft was their best selling game ever and they dont make a sequal?

They all left. The ones who worked on battle.net went to form arena.net. Their community manager worked at diabloii.net, one of the best fansites for diablo 2.

The Condor guys, the ones that made Diablo, ditched Blizzard and went to form Flagship Studios, where they are working on Hellgate: London. I can guarantee this will have Diablo style writting all over it and will be 10x better than Diablo3.

I have said it in the past and will say it again. Blizzard didn't make Diablo, Blizzard can't make Diablo. Diablo 3 will suck. Play Guildwars or better yet, wait for Hellgate.
