I doubt it, unless they have designs to release the console port simulateously for some reason. You can tell from their user interface that they've been very mindful of a console port.

the console port wont hit till 2013

it being ported has nothing to to with the timing of the PC release

I might be the only one, but i'm kinda glad about this in a way :p

So many good games soon, such as BF3, Rage, Skyrim! Skyrim should keep me busy for at least several months.

Not having played WoW, I can't speak to that. But other releases have been long delays. Admittedly some of them have been based on "Hopeful Speculation" on the part of the fan base, but I think if you check you will see Diablo (the original) was delayed almost a year from at least one projected release date (which was firmly believed by the fans).

In my old starcraft jewel case there was an insert that said coming soon in 98 diablo II and warcraft lord of the clans. D2 wasn't released till like 2000...

did they ever actually say it was coming in 2011 or were people just thinking that because the beta started?

They said repeatedly that they were shooting for a 2011 launch, but they would never say that it was going to launch in 2011. Blizzard never says anything other then "When it is ready". The day before it goes gold they will tell it will launch "when it is ready."

To quote Fara from Diablo 2 act 2...

"This is terrible news..."

I don't think it is terrible news. I want to play the game as much as the rest of you. But I want it to be done rather than a half completed mess pushed out the door merely to make some marketing analyst's Quarter sales projection mark. Far to many games are pushed out the door before they are ready. At least Blizzard doesn't do that.

Definitely saw this coming.

Well, I'd rather them polish the game than release a buggy rushed mess.

bleah so hate the fact they cancel it again for next year. and the fact it's only "early year" and not a precise date is so annoying

I keep hearing people say, "that they don't mind the wait, that its better not to rush development".....just how long has this been in development? Hasn't it been something like nearly a decade? I would have to think there is a certain point where taking too long for perfection could be less effective than getting a product out on market with a few flaws.

Depends on your definition of "in development". I don't like the wait, but I was expecting it. Its what Blizzard does.

Re: the WoW xpacs, its a completely different thing releasing xpacs vs. a new game.

Apparently the rules don't apply to Blizzard like they do to everybody else. They've got a huge cash cow with WoW which gives them basically unlimited money and time to develop whatever games they want in whatever time frame they want. They also can bank on past successes, and know that they basically have a captive audience for whatever they release whenever they release it. If this was any other company, they would have had the game done a long time ago, and it would have been just fine. Plenty of companies release games in a timely fashion and they are not buggy, unfinished messes.

My only concern is that "early 2012" turns into "mid 2012" or even "late 2012," and then we will only have a few months to play what looks to be an awesome game before Armageddon. I can't believe more companies aren't taking this ultimate looming deadline into account.

Hahaha. It amazes me that there are still so many people out there that whine about everything. It's not that the rules don't apply to Blizzard, they have reached the stage of quality where they make their own rules. You know why I don't mind waiting for them to finish the game? Because Blizzard is perhaps the one game developer that makes absolutely sure there product is ready before releasing it, and I know my $60 will be well-spent. You say any other company would have the same game done a long time ago? Name one other company that has as perfect a track record for great games as Blizzard.

It has been a decade since the last one yes, but that doesn't mean D3 has been being worked on this entire time. They didn't finish 2 and move right on to 3.

Blizzard has been delaying till their games are "done" since before they were monster successes. It's why I've bought almost every one of their games and own all their Collector's Editions although their future remains to be seen you can't really argue with their track record.
