It's been a long, LONG time since I played this game and quit (made quite a bit of cash selling my accounts). I'm about to start up again, Hardcore East. Anyone want to join me? Or does anyone still play on this realm? It's always better when you have someone to play that you know... especially on hardcore. 🙂 It's installing now.
 
Hmmm... something is weird. When I went to install LoD, it froze about 3/4 through. I canceled the install and rebooted my comp. When I clicked on the game to run it and re-install, it said it was installed by showing me either "Play LoD" or "Upgrade Installation" meaning upgrade from multi-player only to the full game. I uninstalled regular D2 and then reinstalled. When I got to LoD and put that in, same thing happened.. ?? 🙁
 
Damaged CD? It's very old...

I'd say you can safely download an ISO and try with that - you do already own it after all...

You think you could send me that file and it would work? The LoD overall install is 1 bar away from being done. arghhhhhh
 
Or give me a good way to try to clean it.... it looks pretty damn dirty. Alcohol isn't doing anything. For some reason I heard toothpaste works... is this true? :Q
 
can you successfully complete an ISO of the CD? i usually install everyting from iso's/virtual drives now

if not i could hook you up with an image

I really wouldnt count on it... a damp cloth sounds better than toothpaste.

I has a damaged cd2 which i never got working, had to get a friend to make a copy of it.
 
hmm, i dunno how long it takes for your account to get deleted, but if mine is still around, i have uber equipment to spare
 
I think all my accounts got deleted from an accidental click on connect to Battle.net. I used MH on single player. I now only have 1 cd-key that can go online so I'm not taking any chances with MH again....🙁
 
Toothpaste worked.. 😛 I don't remember where I heard it, but it worked.

I sold all my stuff just in time... lots of people got banned when I quit. I had SO much stuff it wasn't even funny (I also used Pindlebot for a while, heh)
I'm level 84 right now... Open Bnet East. Gonna be starting Hardcore this weekend. It sucks though, remembering what you used to have as far as items and now having jack sh!t. 🙁

No, I had 4 accounts a few years ago... shared them with a friend, then we sold them for cash. I started weds night again for the first time in a long time.

I think I still have one active account out there, lost about 90% of my "godlehs" by letting all my accounts expire. Guess that means I still have my hammerdin for rushes/mfing and my zon for dueling. My brother started up again, so I might jump back in and re-build my enchantress sorc.

i had that same issue with those damn .mpq files on my old machine. thought it was the disks, ended up trying it on a friends system and it worked fine. turned out that the drive would hang up on that file since it was so huge, the cache would stop responding once it got full. bought a new CD rom and added it to the system. installed from that one (old one was a 8X burner,that was the issue i think, too slow reading) and it worked fine. doubt its your issue, but it may be insight to... well, no, its pretty much a useless anecdote. sorry.

actually, some guy did tests on what household chemicals would fix CDs well enough to retrieve data. gel toothpaste was the only thing that repaired a CD enough to retrieve data. its a tough process and not really 100% reliable. i went to fry electronics and got me one of those rotary disc cleaners/ scratch fixers. worked wonders. but if you have more than 5 CDs/ DVDs or games to clean, buy a second wheel for it.
