Diablo II - Question about Hell

I just beat Mephisto at the end of Act III, and there's a portal leading to hell. I still have to gain one experience level to have enough strength to use this new shield, and I don't want to start by going in there...

If I enter hell, is there an option to go back to the previous lands? Or am I stuck?

Just out of curiousity, how can one revert to the previously saved game in case they do screw up? Just hit reset while I'm playing?

thanks a lot!

There's a waypoint in the act4 town. You can use it to return to the other acts.

The saving mechanism is built so that you 'save and exit'; that means there's no way to revert your character to a previous state, unless you've backed up your save files for single player and decide to cheat. Yes, this save mechanism is an oversight by Blizzard, but it forces you to make careful decisions, which are permanent.

Yep you can go back once you enter Hell.

Just use the warp option using the beacon thingys.
