If I put two gems of one type into a weapon do I get double the effect or does the second gem negate the first? I have a bunch of gems and I want to stick two saphires and a diamond into a claymore to have an undead killing and freezing sword. Either that or I would use a diamond, one saphire and a ruby...

If you use separate gems, they alternate between swings...otherwise they compund effect

no, only the graphics alternates. If you use ice and lightning, you get both effects, although it only shows one graphic animation.

ARe you sure about the compound effect? It would be very cool to have both effects happen, but like you said, all you see is one or the other.

All the effects are compounded, yes. But you only see one graphic animation which is displayed at random. So if your weapon does 1-7 lightning, and 1-3 fire, it will to a total of 2-10 elemental damage per hit. But the graphic effect animation may be lightning on one hit, and fire on the next hit.

It definitely compounds. It will be clear when you check the item's stats in the inventory window.

I haven't found any great opportunities yet for socketed items.... I have a bunch of jewels and skulls, but it doesn't seem like anything comes close to the magic weapons I've found/bought so far. It does considerably improve an item's resale value, so if you have a bunch of objects laying around you can plug them into a weapon and sell it.

God I'm such a geek.

Here is something that's gem related... if you socket a gem to a staff, does your magic user get bonus when casting, or only when he physcially uses that staff to attack?
