Diablo II is crashing and killing the Direct3D.

I've tried 175.16 and 177.31 drivers (with modded inf) and it still crashes. What happens is that after some time playing (though the latest crash occurred a few minutes into the game) the graphics will glitch out and give me just enough time to save & exit.

However once that happens any app that uses Direct3D is unstable as heck, if I try to open Diablo II again it takes like 2 minutes before the Blizzard logo shows again and again before the game starts after selecting my character. If I try to keep playing the graphics are fine but the one time I kept on playing after a crash I got an even worse crash (sound glitched as well and the graphics flickered and killer my PC) that made me lose a bunch of my progress.

Overheating is not a problem since I just cleaned the insides of my PC with an air compressor, reverted the overclock and installed a new fan to rule out that possibility.

Any ideas? I'll post a picture of the glitched graphics if I can get it.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to say, I'm using the latest Diablo II patch (1.12a)

Well that seemed to do the trick I just played for 3 hours straight perfectly stable. I did lose the perspective option but the game looks cleaner without it.

Use a Glide Wrapper, works like a charm, it simulates 3Dfx / Glide.
