i used to play D2 years ago but i quit b/c everyone had hacked items.

if D3 keeps the 3rd person-side view and does NOT make it super 3d like WoW, Oblivion, etc, ill play it.

but if the D3 world is really wide open and non-linear and if u could do whatever you wanted, then i will NOT play it because it will be just like all the other games.
it will become too time consuming and BORING. Oblivion got boring for me FAST, so has Witcher, but not as fast because it had some sense of a story line.

so.. basically.. i want another D2 w/ slightly better graphics(higher res) and better effects(what the items can do) also better gameplay.

the KEY is gameplay. if graphics are good and items are good, but game play sucks, then fuck it.

Not a fan of the pay per month, but I did cave for xbox live. As a part time gamer investing per month per title is not on my wants as I do go several weeks without gaming.

My first was their first game, The Lost Vikings, my favorite platformer ever.:)

Diablo3.com and BlizzPlanet.com are not affiliated with Blizzard at all, so why would anyone trust a "timer" on either of their websites for anything official?

I hope its truth, but at the same time I'm skeptical.

Can you pleases provide an example where Blizzard has not developed a good title? People change jobs all the time, that doesn't mean that the leadership has any different of a focus.

It would be a bad idea for Blizzard to launch another fantasy MMO to cannibalize their existing MMO. They would have to maintain two games for the exact same target audience.

it's not necessarily a matter of them actually sucking...part of it will be a matter of not living up to the impossible expectations people will have built for release

I have bad feelings about SCII and D3.. if it actually comes

Very few have been great sequels, and even then they were badass games.. e.g. Baldur's Gate 2

Generally true, but exactly who would you pick to have a better chance of pulling it off if not Blizzard?

Blizzard has already started developing a next-gen MMO.

No thanks. If it is, I won't touch it, even if it is free to play :|
But if it's along the lines of D2 with updated graphics, hack & slash, etc...... count me in!

World-Star of Diablo-Craft?

I would be happy to play D3... as long as its not as bad as D2 1.10.

To be expected once WoW reaches end of life. It will be many years before that MMO is finished and we do not even know if it is another high fantasy MMORPG or something else (maybe a Sci-Fi MMORPG or simply a "next-gen expansion pack" for WoW).

It would not make much sense for Blizz to start development on a MMO right now if they were waiting for WoW to end. Cause the earliest that will end is still over a decade out... would be a huge waste of resources for them.

It's funny though they have admitted to have been working on an MMO and since Blizz
usually waits a long time to announce that kind of thing I have to imagine they are looking at releasing it 2-3 years from now latest. Which is interesting.

I would like the same type of hack n slash gameplay as diablo 2 but with:

A) Better balance between classes and
B) A MUCH more open world. Diablo 2 was on rails. Blizzard needs to take a cue from BioWare or Bethesda on how to create an RPG world.

please no, if the story is good, thenI don't mind a mostly linear game, I don't want to have to trudge through some bland no story game.

Me neither. The *best* story based games are linear. That said, you can make a game with a good story and let it branch. KotOR showed that just fine.

Don't expect Diablo III to be linear like KotOR. That is not Blizzard's style at all. It will be much more flexible than that, but I don't expect it to be as open as say Oblivion either.

 You do realize that Diablo 2 was about as linear as they come, right? They added variety with randomly generated maps, but as far as story goes... nothing was different from beginning to end.

Warcraft 3 was also linear, but had multiple story lines you could take depending on the race you chose.

In other words, it's totally Blizzard's style to go linear.

What we both mean by "linear" is different which is leading to some confusion. In terms of the story alone, you are correct. However, I was referring to every aspect of the game from story to character progression. In general, I always felt a larger sense of freedom when it came to Diablo than I did with say KOTOR or Mass Effect. That's just me though.

I think perhaps your definition may be different from everyone's definition ;)

It is the only thing that does make sense. The only way to develop is to be forward thinking. You can't wait around and realize 'oh crap WOW is dying... no, wait it's actually dead!' and then start developing. I definitely see a WoW2 coming by 2011 or so. Maybe Blizz will even find a way to have it streamline with the current WoW to avoid the one thing people probably don't want to do... start over from scratch.

http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/n...nouncement-Forthcoming

There's been a countdown going on at Diablo3.com -- which is a fansite -- that has let to much speculation that an official type announcement was in the works. This isn't the case as the operators of the site are trying to point out without much success. My guess is that they're just fishing for traffic (cough):

In the past days there have been a lot of activity in the network sites after the countdown teaser. A few forum threads keep continuous debate between Diablo fans of what this announcement will be. I have given a few responses of what it is not, to make sure fans won't be thinking the wrong thing. We have made no claims and expect fans to not get caught up with the wave of speculations and rumors in the forums and the web to the point to believe them.

You're welcome.
