Considering pretty much the entire Diablo/Diablo II team left to form Flagship, I'm in wait and see mode.

I'm wondering exactly how they're going to continue the story line. Lord of Destruction wrapped up all the loose ends pretty well, so where they'd go with this I'm not sure.

One could hope...they said YEARS ago that Diablo series is a "Cash Cow" so theres no reason not to make another one, just not anytime soon. That musta been like 4 years ago. I've also read reports that it had been in production for a long time, but blizzard wasn't satisfied with how it turned out, so they kinda had to restart the whole project with another idea...something about it didn't have the gameplay you would expect from them. But thats not a very reliable source, so who knows.

May 1st could be the happiest day in my gaming life. The only reason I don't play D2 anymore is because the community is dead.

Hoping it's a hack/slash and not a MMO. or at least stay with the same Diablo II model where you have a choice. I have owned every blizzard game starting with Warcraft 1 until WOW. Not a fan of the pay per month, but I did cave for xbox live. As a part time gamer investing per month per title is not on my wants as I do go several weeks without gaming.

I would like the same type of hack n slash gameplay as diablo 2 but with:

A) Better balance between classes and
B) A MUCH more open world. Diablo 2 was on rails. Blizzard needs to take a cue from BioWare or Bethesda on how to create an RPG world.

please no, if the story is good, thenI don't mind a mostly linear game, I don't want to have to trudge through some bland no story game.

Me neither. The *best* story based games are linear. That said, you can make a game with a good story and let it branch. KotOR showed that just fine.

Well... it still is kinda linear from a certain standpoint.

I would rather have great story with moreso linear gameplay than good or okay story with no sense of direction, I like to think of it as a movie or something.

The best non linear RPGs are MMO's, If I want something like that I'll go play an MMO

Well, yes, it has a start and an end. I'm not saying I want an Elder Scrolls clone where I can wander off to pick berries for 75 hours and completely ignore the story. I'm just saying I'd like at least the *illusion* of choice.

To continue with the KotOR examples: KotOR let you choose the order you investigated planets, and there were multiple paths to each goal. This is all I'm asking for. In Diablo 2, you didn't get this...when you had to kill Blood Raven, the "different paths" consisted of whether you were killing her with electrical magic or a unique maul. You had to complete one area before you could go to the next one. In the same order. Every time.

I just want the world to feel a bit more open is all.

I want to know what happened to Tyreal. However if DIII is a MMORPG I will not play it, because I don't want to pay to play a game. I still play DII anyway, not as often as before, but I still do, Barbarians for the win! One thing though, if DIII keeps the birds-view camera angle and the semi-3D feel from DII but of course to a much better quality I will certainly have an heart attack out of pure joy.

When the games beforehand were so great, the sequel usually fails to live up to expectations..

I have bad feelings about SCII and D3.. if it actually comes

Very few have been great sequels, and even then they were badass games.. e.g. Baldur's Gate 2

D2 and WC3 certainly lived up to their expectations, though, I'm sad to say I wouldn't be surprised if SC2/D3 suck; Blizzard is much different than it was back in the day.
