Is Blizzard Getting Ready For 'Diablo III' ?
Posted on Thursday, February 02 @ 21:54:07 PST
Back in April 2005 an email from a musician who claimed he had returned from a recording session in Bratislava, with the local Radio Symphony Orchestra, started the Diablo III rumor, and now Blizzard themselves fuel speculations. A new job opening on the Blizzard website states "The team behind Diablo I and II is looking for a talented, motivated, and experienced Art Director to help lead our art team in developing beautiful, cohesive game worlds for an unannounced PC Project" Some requirements are "experience modeling and texturing a diverse visual range of characters and creatures." and "experience animating both human and non-humanoid characters"

Update: text

Excerpt (read the link to understand the "beelzebub" deal):
The core gameplay Beelzebub 3 will play pretty much like Beelzebub 1 and 2, but the game world will be much larger and provide a much deeper experience -- many more items, more levels when you go through the game for first time, more skills, more of everything. In addition, the multiplayer aspect will be greatly enhanced from the past installments and don't be surprised to see more than a couple of WoW-based concepts to leak over into the Beelzebub 3 universe ... such as two opposing factions (Alliance and Horde = Heaven and Hell), enhanced guild functionality, and maybe even mounts?!

The team behind Diablo I and II is looking for a talented,

What team...? The team behind diablo 1 and 2 are another company now. this is highly unlikely for a d3.

Starcraft deserves a new sequal..for the pc that is.

Malladine, I believe this has been posted in another D3/Hellgate: London thread a long time ago... however, I apologise if it hasnt. It looks familiar and I havent delved into HG:L or D3 discussions in a while.

If its new info, it doesnt sound thrilling. The D2 team arent whole any more and I doubt you can make anything that could match the expectation level that Diablo 3 would achieve.... much like Doom 3 or HL 2 never really reached the heights that their hype or expectation would lead you to believe.

I'd rather have Blizzard focus more efforts on WoW, namely getting that expansion out in time as well as increasing server power.

It will be when we finish but untill final release. Basicly It would be hard as heck to modify but if you have the skills we will allow it but you can not play on battel net with people who have differnt versions of our mod. We use an MPQ loader and we made dll injection exe that adds code to the orginal game to add ladder support ad wire frames ect.

Of course there will be a Diablo 3 - some day. Do you have any concept of the enormouse financial value of that franchise name?

But to Blizzard's credit, they have show remarkable restraint against just cashing in on sequels. When D3 comes out, they will probably get it right.

But I wonder if it will be optimized for the Voodoo video cards?

Uh huh, and my friend from Japan is playing Starcraft 2 right now. I'll believe it when I see it. On the chance that this rumor does come true, it just makes me dislike Blizzard even more. World of Warcraft was one of Blizzard's biggest mistakes, beaten only by Starcraft: Ghost. Now they want to rape the Diablo name with guilds and "WoW but in a Diablo world". Pfft. Ever since Diablo II they've been on a downwards spiral.

I think the odds of a Diablo 3 are slim to none. With the Blizzard North guys all gone, I don't think Blizzard is going to take on a continuation project for one of their franchise serieses. Also, with the amount of resources they're pumping into WoW (and since it is so incredibly popular), I'd be surprised to see them allocate more than any marginal resources elsewhere for the time being.
