Diablo 2 over LAN

I was just wondering if anyone has tried playing Diablo 2 over a LAN with just one CD passed around. Does the game check CD keys for local games, and will it stop us from playing?

We'll be using the latest patch.
 
If Im rite, u need to use B.Net for LAN? If u need B.Net, it wont work. If u dont need B.Net, it'll work.
 
i remember playing on the LAN with one cd. Both machines will want a cd to start up the game but i just did the following: insert play cd in system 1, run game, remove cd, insert play cd in system 2, run game, and you are both on. The cd was only required at the initial game execution part for validation i guess... atleast, this is what i remember from using my own retail cds to play.
