I remember playing the D2 beta that i think only had the the barbarian and amazon classes, the first village, and the cave ("of bravery"?). you had to farm the only elite monster in the cave for items and kill lots and lots of Rakanishu!

I remember walking into a frys electronics a couple days before release and there at the front of the store was a display with them on sale. I was so ecstatic. Bought two copies. I remember both cd keys starting with 666t and 666(some other letter) and thought it was so cool.

Diablo 2 was just before my time. My first PC game was Warcraft 3, before that I was a console gamer through and through.

I loved Diablo 2 and I've re-installed many times over the years. Still have my discs in my desk too!
Seriously though, if you're feeling like some updated Diablo 2 definitely give Path of Exile a try. Diablo 3 is fun for what it is, but it's PoE you want if you loved Diablo 2.

I played this game to death, resurrected it, then played it to death again, over and over and over. I don't even remember how many times I've finished it.

The expansion was awesome.

Very hard to play now with the 800x600, looked great on my old 21" CRT now horrible.

Yeah, this is why I was interested in an HD/widescreen mod. Even though I got D2/LoD installed I simply can't deal with 800x600 on a 27" LCD. As good as the gameplay is I just can't deal with the graphics.

oh i think i wasted so many hours of my life grinding in this game...

I reached level 21 with the Barbarian but I found him underwhelming. I restarted with a Paladin and find him much better.

Physical +% damage skills rely on really good weapons, unlike Holy Freeze which always adds large amounts of damage regardless of the gear. I also think Zeal is better than double swing, especially when surrounded.

Overall the Paladin carves through crowds much faster and remains much safer while doing it.

Don't forget the find item skill barbs have.

The last time I played this game I ran 4 simultaneous instances of it. It was pretty fun rushing to get runes. I cubed them up pretty high, but when I calculated how long it would take me to get the highest rune it would've been 1000's of runs. And there are so many dupes around that it would still be pointless to get high level runes in a legit manner.

I spent many years playing this game, 2nd only to SimCity 4 for me.
