For some reason Diablo will not run on my new system. KA7, K7-650, 128mb ram, Firball+KA, Soundblaster live, Win98. Diablo intalls, and everything comes up, but when I start to play it says can't find Diablo disc or cant find cdrom. Its looking for the main diablo file but cant find it. Its very frustrating to play this on my old system with an 8x cdrom. I love this game.

Hmm that really sux. My only guess would be if the cd is scratched or something. At least there is Diablo II out for ya now.

Not really sure why that is happening....in my experience there is usually a smudge or scratch on the disc like timmfin said. Try cleaning the disk off, especially since some cdrom drives are very picky in reading discs. Good luck :)

yea - there is a documented problem running some version of diablo on win98 with some setups - what u need is a patch which actually was written for starcraft ( it had similar problems on win98 ) now i cant remember what it was called or where i found it but it works. It`s summat like starct98.exe or something like that - i found it on a diablo fan site. I`ll have a poke around see if i can dig it up again.

I had this problem before... what i did was replace Win98's cdfs.vxd file with Win95's. Problem solved.

Thanks guys it seems that there is another reason to hate Win98. The virtual device driver was the problem. I think I may put Win95 back on.

I doubt is was really W98 alone. I installed D1 two months ago on my W98 and it worked right away. there are some patches, have you applied those?
