Diabling "Updates Available" on Android...

Im running 2.2.2 (froyo) and let the thing update a ton of things a while back. Now i have some Windows Phone looking version (big blocks, different colors, adverts, etc. think preschool) of Marketplace running with no options to turn off the "Updates Available" notification that seems to arise at least once a day. All the google results seem to be based on a non-windows phone-like version of marketplace. So how do i disable this shit? Its currently bothering me about a manual update of youtube. Im uninstalling any youtube nonsense from this phone as soon as i hit submit...

I can't really imagine someone making a thread about this instead of updating the apps

Youtube is not part of Android. It is a separate app. It's just how your stock rom is. Unfortunately, Google pushed the new market without much thought on how some of their changes negatively effects things. Such as their random sorting of shown comments.. although they recently fixed it. You might just have to wait and see if they put that old option back in.

First of all I don't believe you can do this unless there is some sort of notification app that would hide it.

Secondly you only have to manually update once before you can click automatic updates and you'll no longer have to spend all of 5 seconds hitting 'update all'.

Thirdly, no need to get all raged up here about something so silly.

YouTube is part of Android. I cant remove it. I tried. Im not going to root my phone with the hope that i can remove an app that is endogenous (YouTube is Google is Android).

Err, the Youtube app was separated from the Android OS a while ago, along with Gmail, Gtalk, etc. Even on a non-rooted phone, you should be able to uninstall it, so long as the phone is running Froyo or better.

I personally like the new Market. The previous version of Market sucked and was ugly. Stupid big green crap taking up half the display.

Google's Market still has some problems - No way to turn off update notifications, no way to flag an app as "Never update (and stop reminding me)", and worst of all, no way to sort/filter searches.

Edit: The previous Market was very slow, too. The new one is lightning fast, especially to download apps.

I dislike the look of the new Market, but I won't deny that its smoother and faster than the previous Market.

I'm still confused on why you would want to disable updates on a specific app though?

In some cases it could be useful as I've had cases where an update actually reduces the usability or appeal of the app, usually because of some sort of conflict, like copyright, and then you're either forced to keep ignoring it or find another app.

I really don't like this new Market, especially when it artificially limits what apps you can download for your device even though you are able to run those apps (Nook Color).

can i clarify a reason i block updates?

gmail has been fucked by google so other apps can't access the database (launcher pro gmail widget as an example). i won't allow gmail to be updated due to this.

other apps were free but then "updated" to being adware/paid. not gonna update these either

Yep. Shazam is as perfect example. I got the free version that was unlimited tags (ad supported) way back in July of last year, and it keeps wanting me to update to a newer version that gives you like 5 tags a month. The paid version is $5.

Also in my case, a few paid apps I got free on Amazon Appstore show up in market, and if you try to update them, Market prompts you to buy it.

That isn't the Market really. That is the developer not adding NC to it's manifest file as a supported device. The market is simply following the "rules" that the dev specified for their app.

that's one of the cool features of cloud computing. you are pestered to update an app all the time because in theory the latest version is the greatest
