Scissors would be pretty effective if you're close enough.

The 13 rules of Gunfighting.

1. Have a gun.

Some words to the wise. Shooting Advice from various Concealed Carry Instructors. If you own a gun, you will appreciate this. If not, you should get one and learn how to use it.

A) Guns have only two enemies: rust and politicians.

B) It’s always better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

C) Cops carry guns to protect themselves, not you.

D) Never let someone or something that threatens you get inside arms length.

E) Never say “I’ve got a gun.” If you need to use deadly force, the first sound they hear should be the safety clicking off.

F) The average response time of a 911 call is 23 minutes, the response time of a .357 is 1400 feet per second.

G) The most important rule in a gunfight is: Always win – cheat if necessary.

H) Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets…You may get killed with your own gun, but he’ll have to beat you to death with it, cause it’ll be empty.

I) If you’re in a gun fight:
If you’re not shooting, you should be loading.
If you’re not loading, you should be moving.
If you’re not shooting, moving or loading, you’re probably dead.

J) In a life and death situation, do something…It may be wrong, but do something!

K) If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you have a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?

L) You can say ‘stop’ or ‘alto’ or any other word, but a large bore muzzle pointed at someone’s head is pretty much a universal language.

M) You cannot save the planet, but you may be able to save yourself and your family.

absolutely. Definitely better than being a sitting duck. I'd just rather have a gun in a gunfight, not a pair of scissors, if at all possible ;)

Instead of promoting more violence, perhaps DHS should resurrect the "Just Say No" campaign. If we can spread peace, harmony and promote good will around the world by giving sincere handshakes, apologizing and bowing to world leaders, shouldn't we be able to stop violence by telling criminals no?

School kids are still doomed though. Those safety scissors can't even cut paper.

scissors are great weapons. IF you are close enough to use them. To use them against someone with a gun? suicidal.

It being "suicidal" is the very reason you might be able to pull off a miracle. And if my options are praying for a miracle or trying to pull off a miracle. I'll go with the second one.

At least it said something about fighting if it's a last resort. Most of the government ones I've had to watch basically say lock a door and hide, and to never confront. Me and my co-workers just look at each other like, "yeah right."

*sigh* What analyst produced that crap? "Resist with whatever is available."

Come on, I've taken 1 freaking month of Krav Maga. One month, I'm a complete fucking noob. And I know that the first thing you do if you're lucky enough to be close enough is grab the gun and get control over where its pointing. So long as it isn't pointing at you, even if it's only off by an inch, the immediate danger is reduced from death to hearing damage.

Or you can charge the person with fucking scissors and have the gun emptied into you at point blank range because you didn't bother to control it.

:D +1

Is there such a thing as assault scissors? Are they legal?
Judging from the UK, they'll be legal up until the politicians have succeeded in taking our guns. Then it'll be open season on knives and pointy shears.

I thought scissors only beat paper. :hmm:

Provided you can ambush an attacker successfully, or the attacker is a complete moron, and the ambusher has some degree of skill, melee weapons may do the trick, but...

Who am I kidding, it is pretty suicidal.

Seriously though, a gunman would be very stupid indeed to be anywhere within arms length of anyone not dead.

 I don't even own a handgun, and I've watched almost all his videos, already, that aren't reviews, tear-downs, and whathaveyou.

What is crazy is I can actually see many of the gun grabbers "compromising" and having something like that be what is allowed for CCW (if you can even get the CCW permit that is). They are that insane.
