DHS buys another 700 million rounds of amo...

The DHS didnt BUY any ammo yet. That is simply a contract that allows them TO BUY up to 700mil rounds of ammo. Nothing in there says they have to purchase every single round but rather it is a upper limit that they can purchase if needed.

And seriously 2.5k a year for an agent is hardly anything. 625 rounds every 3 months for practice. O but even less since that covers their qualification as well (cant remember how many rounds just for that). Really that might sound like a lot but its not.

And no i cant believe im actually supporting the DHS >.<

Oh Noes, law enforcement is buying ammo so they can train and have ammo when needed, which make it had for me to get ammo to shoot at beer cans. Gee, thanks Obama!

it's mostly practice ammo. and it's really not that much more of what they used to get. maybe they plan to hire more agents. i wish our local agencies would get that much training. they need it.

I also find it ridiculous that we have as many armed DHS agents running around this country as we do, protecting us from imaginary terrorists. But that's just me...

Those "terrorists" would not be imaginary when push comes to shove over domestic abuse of power. Think militarized LEOs are a coincidence? They don't do home invasions over stolen Frito chips for nothing.

Arming and training for war.

As for that quantity, they won't / don't expect to need that much. Most people obey the men with guns.

Uh oh! You guys better start buying even more guns and hoarding even more ammo! Those evil liberal government workers are planning to come after you! You better hurry up and finish that shelter or end of days fort!

A fool and his money are soon departed.

OH NOOOOOO!!!!!!11111one

No they did not purchase 700 million rounds of ammo. That is just not a fact. The signed a contract to purchase it over the next four years. Its in the first paragraph for God's sake:

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is contracted to purchase 704,390,250 rounds of ammunition over the next four years, which is equal to a total of about 2,500 rounds per DHS agent per year - See more at: http://m.cnsnews.com/news/article/a...next-4-years-2500-rounds#sthash.yUasASzq.dpuf

So less than 50 rounds per week. I personally put a lot more than than downrange. If the government can save money by buying in bulk, GOOD!

Now take off your tin foil hats and go chace chemtrails.

Yeah I was going to say... 2,500 per year sounds fairly normal. Could be a touch high depending how often they have to re-certify or how often they are required to practice.

I know there's guys out there shooting more than 2500 rounds a year who aren't LEOs or military..

So this whole topic gets covered a year ago during the last ragefest on ammunition acquisition contracts, it was thoroughly debunked, and yet here we are again with the same thread?

The only way this story gets posted again and again is through sheer ignorance or willful denial of the facts.

Interesting. The US Coast Guard and the Secret Service are part of DHS now. No reason those guys would need bullets, eh?

\cnsnews - what a fuckin' joke! lol!

I think a perfectly reasonable question is why cant FedGov procure FMJ rounds for practice/qualification? Why do they have to corner the market on hollow points?

They want people to practice with what they carry. Its perfectly reasonable and is the best way to do it.
