I'm not home during the day so can't sign for the package. I call yesterday and request they hold it at the facility so I can pick it up. They confirm that it will not go out for delivery today so I can pick it up. Shockingly, I go to pick it up and am told that it is out for delivery and that there was no hold on it. They tell me to come back after 3. I go back at 4. They make me wait for 15 minutes while they look around for the package. Finally they come back and tell me the driver isn't back yet and to come back later.

These people have 1 job. Make sure object gets from A to B. And at a moment's notice during transit, at any given time, they should be able to punch in the tracking # and tell me the longitude and latitude of the package immediately. What truck it's on, who's got it, etc. This is apparently too much for the folks at DHL.

Dickish. Hopeless. Lazy. DHL.

I think if you search DHL sucks here, you'll find a few threads of mine in that pile as well.

Here, DHL is pretty good. They deliver replacement drives to me all the time and pickups are pretty simple to schedule too. I can imagine, if you aren't there to receive the package it would suck... But that's why I always have things that are important delivered to my office. The secretary always signs for them and they're safer here than on my porch. (Not that I live in a bad neighborhood...you just never know these days)

so your trailerpark issue means all their shipping is bad?

IMHO deliveries should require a human intervention. Too many people lately are oddly claiming delivered packages never actually made it. This causes me to have to pay more when I buy stuff.

I do almost all my shopping online. I have it delivered to my office. It's rare I don't get something...maybe it's 0.5% if I could factor it.

In reality though, they are actually servicing the people who sent it, not the people who are accepting it. The sender is requesting a direct signature to be required on delivery, therefore they must follow what sender has requested. If the sender asked for DHL to hold at specific location, they'll do so. Their first priority is to satisfy the shippers request. In cases like these, it's always best to contact the shipper and not the carrier, and to have the sender request to DHL to have them hold at specific location, or to allow a neighbor sign in your absence.

How they screwed up your request...whoops?

I was looking out the window at work the other day and saw a DHL truck start driving away with the back still open. A Dell box (tower sized) fell out and slammed hard on the concrete. The driver hopped out, looked around for a sec and then threw it back into the truck, closed the door and took off.

Any shipping company who's standard procedures make it so a package from one Chicago suburb to another Chicago suburb is 4 days in transit, deserves to go out of business.

Ordered some sample parts to be shipped overnight. The vendor used DHL overnight service. We don't have DHL in town any more. Estimated Delivery 3 weeks... via USPS.
