Nobody is rejoicing over people losing their jobs.....they're rejoicing over a horrible company not being around anymore, which is a good thing. Companies fail, that's a part of life. I've lost my job before too.....I never expected pity from anyone.

Packages will still have the be moved around. So those jobs will by picked up when USPS, Fed-EX, and UPS add on.

I don't get why people knock dhl. Every package I've ever received from them arrived 2nd business day and that's for ground shipping. I'm in I'm in Oregon, item shipped from New York, 2 business days. Item shipped from Ohio, 2 business days. DHL has always been days faster than comparable UPS or Fedex or even USPS service would be. If anything, fuck Fedex. Overpriced incredible slow service.

I can't say I'm sorry to see them go. I ran a low volume eBay operation from 2000 til September of this year. Over the last eight years I shipped out about 2,000 packages, to all over the country, from Ann Arbor then Indianapolis then Madison, so I was not restricted to one location. USPS was 985/987 (one lost, one destroyed), UPS was 622/642 (seven lost, 13 destroyed), FedEx was 223/225 (two lost, none destroyed), & DHL was 4/10 (all six lost). While I realize those are small, small numbers given the size of these operations, in my opinion they speak for themselves, heh.

Sad day indeed.

For me it use to be FedEx > DHL > USPS > UPS

But over the past two years it has now become

UPS > USPS > DHL > FedEX

In my area UPS has improved greatly, and DHL and FexEX have gone down the drain, expecially FedEx.

In march had 5 boxes delivered to my house, with a value of over $2000. I had forgot to put delivery signiture required, and was worried the UPS man would just leave these boxes on the door steps. Luckly he was smart enough to realize it would be a bad idea to leave this stuff on the door steps. So he refused to deliver it until someone was home who could sign for it. It was heavy ass shit too, and he helped move it inside the house. Honestly I think FedEX and DHL would have left it in front of the door to be stolen.

Circuit City is dead too. Just filed for Bankruptcy

doh! and i found a $10 giftcard today 🙁

look like that gift card is now near worthless 🙁

They are filing for Chapter 11, not Chapter 7. The gift card will still work.

I'd consider spending it now, just in case they end up having to liquidate anyway within the next few weeks.

Right now, the economy is so screwed up that many economic advisers are recommending against giving ANY gift cards this Christmas, just in case the store or restaurant ends up going bust before they get a chance to spend it. Scary.

Just in at CNN

"Global delivery company DHL to cut 9,500 jobs and to discontinue U.S operations."

8000 of those 9500 employees they are laying off are in my back yard in Wilmington, OH. My neighbor 2 doors down is a customs agent for the government at their shipping facility. His job loss and the countless others that support that distribution center are evaporating and are not being counted in the 9500 jobs mentioned.

 for all those just added to the unemployment line.

WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!
Worst delivery company ever.
I think their main job was seeing how much damage they could do to a package.

I don't feel too bad for employees that did such a terrible job.

Bummer, used to have super fast ground shipping at very competitive rates. I won't miss the local DHL guy though, grumpy as can be.

Yeah I was going to say that.

"DHL Express is owned by the German company Deutsche Post World Net. " lol, they could of simply said German Post Office for Americans.

Yeah, their ground shipping is extremely fast. I could get a ground package from NC to CA in three business days instead of five business days like UPS.

However, the nail in the coffin for them (at least for my eBay sales) was when PayPal UPS shipping began to undercut my DHL rates. Chalk up the added benefit that address fields are automatically populated with PayPal UPS shipping and freight charges are deducted directly from my PayPal account made it a nobrainer decision to switch.

Packages I've gotten delivered by DHL have always been in good shape. Unlike deliveries from FedEx and UPS which usually look like they played soccer with the packages.

I f'n hate DHL. They have the worst most inconsiderate drivers for their shitty little vans. I've been cut off by those fuckers more times than I can remember. I've never had that problem with UPS or Fedex.

I'm glad they are pulling out.

No CDL required for the vans = drivers don't give a shit.
