DHL will cut 9,500 jobs, discontinue U.S. operations
Posted: 08:09 AM ET
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) ?Deutsche Post World Net announced Monday its
global delivery company DHL will cut 9,500 U.S. jobs and said it will
discontinue U.S. air and ground operations.

DHL cuts 9,500 U.S. jobs - Delivery firm to end U.S.-only operations, will continue shipments to other countries.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Global delivery company DHL announced Monday that it was cutting 9,500 jobs as it discontinues air and ground operations within the United States.

In a press release, DHL said its DHL Express will continue to operate between the United States and other nations.

DHL's 9,500 job cuts are on top of 5,400 job cuts announced earlier this year.

The company also said it was shutting down all ground hubs and reducing its number of stations to 103 from 412.

DHL said it was making the cuts to improve profitability and "to prepare the company for the economic challenges ahead."

DHL Express is owned by the German company Deutsche Post World Net.

The U.S. job market has been bleeding jobs all year. The Labor Department said nearly 1.2 million jobs were lost in the first 10 months of this year,, with 240,000 jobs lost in October alone.

Not exactly. They said they are discontinuing US DOMESTIC ONLY air/ground shipments, but will continue to handle international shipping from/to the US.

I f'n hate DHL. They have the worst most inconsiderate drivers for their shitty little vans. I've been cut off by those fuckers more times than I can remember. I've never had that problem with UPS or Fedex.

I'm glad they are pulling out.

Good. Worst delivery company I've dealt with. I've lost count of how many packages they've lost for me.

Wow. DHL has always been the best of the companies for me. But this thread will of course be very objective as are all carrier threads. One person will say it sucks, the other will say its great, depending on the location. Only problem is they won't say the location, they just always say its sucks or is great universally, which isn't true of any of the 4 big carriers.

As I said, for my area DHL has been very solid. It's Fedex Ground that has to always call us to ask for directions and still can't find us so they turn around and call us to come pick it up in Tallahassee.. which is 40 minutes away :p

They'll finally go with a legit delivery service like USPS/FedEx/UPS.

I love DHL because no matter what, be the package shipped overnight or ground, it always gets here before 9AM. Always.

The other two take until anywhere from 4-6PM. And DHL hasn't broken anything yet, so..... :)

Legit and USPS?

While I have no love for DHL and their terrible service, another 10,000 lost just sucks. :(

I wish USPS would buy all that if left of the US DHL. The post office has offices everywhere but they need the tracking setup and planes. It would complete their delievery service.

I was turning left (middle left lane which is straight or left)

middle right and far right were straight only

I feel bad for the people who lost their jobs, but:

1. No more DHL from Newegg, whoohoo!
2. They STILL owe me $400 in damages because I had to replace hard drives from a server I sold that they drop-kicked all the way across the nation

:p

F DHL

They backed over my co-worker's Harley. After that they left town. Dell deliveries now take 2+ weeks.

Thank god they are done.

There's a gas station nearby that has low gas prices that sometimes had a line of DHL vans. Guess I won't have to worry about that any more.
