DHCP Problem

I am having a problem on my nt network. When a computer is setup with an internal ip through dhcp, it takes about 5 seconds for the client to negotiate with the server, before it can connect with the internet. After that the speed is fine, but I was wondering if there was a fix to this problem, because I have two computers one 2000, one 98 se that connect without the lag. Any help would be appreciated.

When does the 5-second delay happen? after you open a browser window? right after it boots up? It could just be a delay starting up the network interface...I notice this happening occasionally with NT machines. I wouldn't worry about it.

The delay happens when the browser window opens up. It indicates that it is navigating to the proxy server's netbios address after around 5 seconds the connection is established and no problems. But since I am pulling the users off static ip's they are used to the instant uptime. The one thing I can say is that on my w2k rig there is no delay the proxy is negotiated instantly

can you set up the proxy manually in the internet explorer settings [settings/lan configuration]? Do you even need the proxy settings?

I have already set up the proxy manualy in Internet Connection Wizard, I am debating if writing an automatic configuration script would speed it up a bit
