DGL-3420 As A NIC - How Do I Do It?

I'm planning on using this adapter in a Shuttle as I don't have any room for an actual card. What do I need to do to get this to work? I have it configured the same way as my router(DGL-4300)but I am getting a "little or no connection " error and can't get online. Any suggestions?

That error message means that the adapter is receiving a signal from the router but it did not get an IP address from the router. On a wireless network, that almost always means that the security settings do not match between the router and the wireless adapter. Check to make sure you are using the same type of encryption and that the security key is entered correctly in the D-Link software on your computer.

The encryption is the same and so is the SSID but I will check the ID again. The only time I can access the adapter is when I have a static IP set on the pc. Is it supposed to be set statically or dynamically? I'm not real network savvy and wireless just really irritates me! If the ID is the same , where do i go from there? I know it has to be something simple. Thanks for replying.

It's normal to have to use a static IP when configuring a non-connected bridge. This is because when it's not connected, it doesn't have access to the DHCP server. Once it's properly configured and connected though, you can go back to automatic IPs (a reboot of the client might be needed at that point).

Try downgrading your encryption to WPA-TKIP only on the router if you have it set to mixed or higher. If that doesn't work, try disabling encryption completely temporarily. If that doesn't work, look at the channels, SSID, MAC filtering, etc., to find the problem. Once you have it working, then ramp up the encryption step by step until you have it as high as all devices will go.

Thanks for replying. I am currently using WPA-TKIP. I am going to start from the beginning and try going encryptionless and see what happens. Will post back. thanks! Oh yeah , I like to run static IPs when running P2P programs - will the IP of the adapter be considered static as seen by the router or will I still need to set it manually on the PC?

You'd still need to set it to static on the PC, and use that IP for forwarding, because the bridge's IP doesn't really matter in this case.

Congratulations on getting it working.
