DFX sucks with Winamp

It is VERY inconsistent for me. I read a thread in which a lot of people claimed it was nice. Well, it was for a while. The output does seem nicer, and generally cleaner.

I soon noticed that the filter changes depending on the music. With it off, I get consistent sound. With it on, if the music style, volume, or feedback level changes, the filter quality changes.

Blah. Who wants inconsistent sound?

Well, I am listening to my favorite band, The Impossibles, who are very weezer-like. Well, they have a LOT of harmonics and feedback. Quiter parts of songs without the feedback sound good, but DFX slowly shanges quality when the louder parts start.

I am glad to know that it is not just me.

I agree that it sounds pretty good with a lot of songs, but I noticed that it decreases volume after a few seconds and it drives me CRAZY!! Until they work on it a little more I'm not going to use it.

I agree it sounds good most of the time, although it is sometimes inconsistent. One plugin you can use for sure to always increase your sound quality is the MAD Winamp decoder.

You won't be disappointed with the results of this one. :)

dfx sounds interesting/good when I play it through the speakers...
when the headphones go in, I hear hissyness/noise almost (subtle) with dfx...

my hardware?
Zoltrix PCI nightengale sound card to a denon d-600 personal component system.
Headphones - sony mdr-501LP (40mm drivers) decent, but definitely not high end material...
