Dfi SLI-DR or Abit AN8?

I was mobo you guys think would be better at just stable speeds, i might be doing some ocing later on. What do you guys think is a better choice?

Neither, I would wait a little till ASUS comes out with the A8N SLI Premium or the A8N-E Premium. Maybe those will OC well. ABIT and DFI are typically hit and miss. I was about to order the Fatal1ty, but after reading up on ABIT, I changed my mind. Don't get me wrong, ABIT and DFI make some kick-A products, but they seem to be more of a hit miss.

there has been a lot of problems though with the asus boards, i just read about some guy not haveing to go over 1.55v on his asus a8n for oc'ing which isnt really that good. But ill just keep reading reviews. Do you know when the premium is coming out?

How is that not good? The less voltage required, the better.

i have decided to not go with the abit anymore even though its a good board, im just trying to figure out between the asus and dfi.

what do u mean its better? im confused lol 😱

If you can overclock with comparible results using LESS voltage that is GOOD. You don't endanger your chip as much, don't put such a strain on it, and it will run cooler. You want to get the most out of overclocking without having to raise your voltage that much. If I can overclock on my board a 3000+ to 2.6ghz only doing say 1.45 volts, but another person takes 1.55 volts to get 2.6ghz using the same chip, on another motherboard, I have the upper hand. Do you see what I'm saying 🙂 Mine will run cooler, more efficient, and is stable for a longer period of time because it uses less voltage to get the same or similar results in clocking.

oooooooo thank you!! I was wondering, i thought the higher the better lol. Stupid me haha well thanks a lot. I have a question for the asus a8n also.. I was wondering if it has good capacitors and other components?

Yeah I assume the capacitors are pretty good. Nah you're not stupid... the higher the clock speed the better (for OCing) but you want to keep your voltage low... the new Venice cores are suppose to be around like 1.4v even overclocked they barely hit 1.5... 1.55v on a Venice is like... a 1ghz overlock 😉 lol

Very efficient and promising looking chips..

YAY i cant wait till venice comes out! I still have until summer to my comp parts, but its just very fun thinking about how my comp is going to be 🙂 All my friends made their own comps so i feel kinda left out, but iill be really dang happy when i make my comp w00t. Im going to try and go to tournaments for Counter Strike becuz i play it everyday and the game is just very fun 🙂

Ah sweet... yeah I did some tournaments and lanparties in my time lol... CS is fun I use to kick ass but now I just suck so yeah... everyone hax me 🙁 hehe
Your comp will be very impressive, easy to setup, you'll do fine, and I'm sure you'll be pleased.

I know what you feel like DfiDude. I go to a private college prep school where most everybody has tons of money. Unfortunately, my family does not. So a spoiled rotten guy I know who loves CS Source but doesn't know ANYTHING about hardware finds out that I am building a computer. Then he talks to his father ( a plastic surgeon ) and asks if he can build a computer. His dad gives him $4,000 the next day...Never mind the fact that the kid already had a decent comp (3.4GHz P4, 1GB DDR400, X800XT) from Dell.

However, he never built it, but instead, a nurse that worked for his dad built it for him and selected the parts. Now THIS is the crazy part. Look what he bought -

Intel Socket 478 Mobo - $200
3.4 P4 S478 - $400
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro - $250 (Stupidest choice - what the hell is he doing, studio recording???!)
Maxtor 120GB SATA - $150
PNY 6800 Ultra 256MB - $600
Viewsonic 19" LCD VP191S - $600 (Really got ripped off)
Cooler Master Cavalier w/ 350w- $100
Plextor DVDRW - $150
Creative Gigaworks S700 - $315
2GB Corsair Value Select - $400

Total - around $3200 for that machine...

I even had a chance to talk with the nurse who was ordering the parts through his company. He said that Intels were "more compatible" with games. I was like ok? (It is true that only Intels were only compatible with certain software - back 8 years ago).

Anyway, DfiDude, the more you are waiting to build it, the more you will learn, and THAT'S what counts. I am going through the same thing. All of my little rich classmates are having their daddies get them "teh l33t" Alienware, or XPS, etc, but I am building mine on my own. Just be patient 😉

BTW, that kid with that comp is already experiencing problems, due to the fact that he is using that generic 350w PSU. But if he had RESEARCHED like you or I, he would know not to use a generic PSU.

See where I'm going?

He should have said that you can't go over 1.55 volts on the Asus. It's the title of a thread on this page. 😉

yea lol, wow thats crazy waylay dang lol people getting freeking 4000 dollar comps thats just crazy lol. I have to work for my stuff which is good, i feel like i earned my stuff more than people that just get it just like that.

I can build a better comp then that for <1000.... 🙂

When are rich boys gonna learn.. have all that money, don't have the ideal to simply read for like 2 HOURS to find out what to buy and what not to at what prices....
