about the Ninja review statement: I don't know if you will break any speed records either...but the FSB goes up to 300 and I've yet to hear an AMD board hitting a stable 300 (600Mhz effective) yet... =) I can clock my XP2500 straight up to 220x10 without even messing around in it. I've not yet had the time to really dive into how far I can get this thing to go.

I don't know of what limitations he is talking about other than a complaint that 2.8v on the vdimm isn't enough. Again, I am at 220x10 with Buffalo DDR400 CH-5 @ 2.7v. With the latest BIOS...its a cinch to overclock.

As for RAM, I cannot recommend the HyperX PC3500 or PC4000 (or the PC3700) as I am seeing issues crop up with it (not just DFI NF2 issues either).

But I can recommend Buffalo DDR3200 (BH-5 or CH-5 chips) as being monster RAM. No heat spreaders, but I have had no need for them yet.

I can also recommend the TWINX Corsair modules. I do not have any of these, but the lab in Taiwan has tested them and they are good clockers.

GEIL Golden Dragon is highly recommended as being excellent RAM. GEIL blue-shielded RAM is very problematic in ASUS, Giga, DFI NF2 boards (and a few others). DO NOT BUY THE BLUE SHIELD RAM FOR NF2. It might work...but why take the chance?

OCZ makes excellent memory also. I can ask the lab if you have a specific module in mind.

TwinMOS is probably the best RAM I have seen to date. The CH-5 and the TMD chips are awesome.

I also advise buying twin-packs of RAM, guaranteed to run in dual-chan mode. I have never had a problem just buying two at once at same time and getting them to work in dc...but again, err on the safe side.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask me =)

Hi Travis,

How do I tell whether the RAM is CH-5, BH-5, TMD or some other stuff?

Which do you feel is better the CH-5 or the BH-5?

Would memory thats rated higher than PC3200 yield better OCing results? Such as Buffalo PC3700, TWINMos PC3700, etc.

Can you recommend any place to buy my RAM sticks?

Also, any word on when the next revision of the DFI NFII LP will be coming out (the one with the socket holes)?

Thanks,
Mace Howling

Oh heck. With all this talk about the new DFI NFII LP board; I decided to just build a brand new system. Can anyone recommend a good PSU?

Thanks,

- Mace Howling

lol, you can get the CH-5 Buffalos from Newegg.com. There is a gentleman (two actually) in my other forums that sells the Buffalo, and one of them sells the TwinMOS.

The guy that sells the TwinMOS has it listed as to which sticks you want. Apparently the TMD chips are even better than the CH-5/BH-5 ones, but I have no experience with them.

Its about $100 for 2x256 of Buffalo, with free 2day FedEx, and the TwinMOS is slightly more expensive. (PM me for details).

I have no information about the next revision of the NF2 LanParty yet.

Best place to buy the RAM is either newegg (Buffalo) or from the other forum (TwinMOS and its the only person/place i know of that sells the TwinMOS other than memoryx.net/com one of those lol).

PSU: Antec TrueBlue psu's are awesome. 430w and 480w. Cant go wrong with one of those =) Zalmann makes excellent ones too.

Make sure you pay attention to the 3.3v + 5v wattages (make sure they are at least 200w and better if they are 220w or more)

And pay attention the amps it puts out on each rail...a good psu is something like this:

3.3v - 26A
5v - 36A
12v - 18A

PS: not sure if you will have better overclocking results with PC3700 or such. I have the 3200 Buffalos and they will easily do 220x right off the bat. Maybe someone with more experience in the newer RAM such as 3700/4000 can answer this for you (and me lol).

I'm leaning more towards geil golden dragon's at this point.... where do i find the twinmos... i cant find them anywhere and how do i know what chips were used

What about Mushkin Black Perf Level II and OCZ EL, EL Gold and EL Platinum?

Do the OCZ types differ in performance? If so, please rank them.

i have been going over the same decision for over a month now and i am going with the NFII. teh bundle and looks are worth the money to me if they perform the same and belive it or not the NFII performs better. i would suggest a trip over to toms and check out there nfocre 2 shootout. i will linky if i can find it again.

and as for hsf i am going with a sk-7 and a ystech fan.i have heard that this combo is great. obviosly not as good as the slk800 or 900 both of whci you gan get the non ultra and mount without the holes.

Someone else that is very familiar with OCZ memory will have to answer this question. I haven't gotten my hands on any OCZ memory yet, so don't want to give a false answer =)

well like the name the platinum is best then the gold then the standard but the perfomance betwwen each step is so small. there is no visible difference until you compare standard to platinum and then it is still small.

Travis,

I have seen profiles of your system with the NFII and HyperX then Buffalo RAM. Now considering that the HyperX was only 2700 and the newer buffalo is 3200 which did you like best? And if given the chace to trade out the bufallo 3200 for hyperx 3200 what do you think the perfomance differe3nce would be?

Honestly I cannot comment on that. When I first got my HyperX PC2700, it was $75.00 per 512MB stick, and it was the best thing since sliced cheese =)

That was on a KT400 board. THe NF2 Epox 8RDA3+ hated the RAM.

My DFI NF2 though loves it.

I am having some troubles getting my 2x512MB sticks of HyperX PC3500 to do as well as my Buffalo right now. I can easily hit 220x10 with the Buf, but the HyperX doesn't seem to like anything over 200...but I might be doing something wrong.

HyperX isn't cheap performance RAM (like cheap quality). Its actually really good...when it works on a given board =)

Buffalo though, I have to say I am HIGHLY impressed with it. I'd stick to my Buffalo because it works in every board in the house without problems, and mad overclocker on all the I875/NF2 boards.

DFI Infinity I875
DFI LP I875
DFI NF2 LP
DFI NF2 Ultra-AL
DFI LP KT400A
Giga GA-7VT600-L
ASUS A7V8X-X
MSI KT4V
Giga GA-7VRXP2.0
ASUS A7V266-E

HyperX has issues with overclocking on the I875's and the NF2's. Again, I maybe have not spent enough time messing with it (and its hard to give up a good 220x10 lol).
