Most of the bad things I've heard about Newegg refurbs was from their refurb video cards. My friend has purchased two refurb mobos from Newegg in the past. One worked fine, the other was sketchy. I guess it's hit or miss, but probably worth a try at this price. My guess is this is either a board that someone promptly returned, or couldn't overclock very well.

You may get lucky...what exactly do you plan on overclocking, though?
If it's an A64 3000+ or higher, I'd stick with something like an Epox 8KDA3j, since you won't need 300+ HTT for a high overclock. If you're using an A64 2800+ or 90nm Sempron, then I guess you would be best off with the DFI.

I've had MUCH worse luck with newegg Mobos than Video cards. About 10 dead video cards out of 30, 8 of which were fixed by simply cleaning the arctic silver off them.
About 5 dead boards out of 10. None of which could be fixed. And maybe two boards that had issues (ps2 port doesn't work/ etc). Still, It's a $45 savings. Even if you have to RMA once or twice you still save $25+ if you dont need the accessories. Of course you need to consider the resale value loss. For example, I've gotten offers of $115+ for my buddies Retail Ultra-D (not for sale anymore so don't ask) but when I've sold refurbs in the past I rarely got more than 60% of retail.

Yah, might be even shorter. You, pretty much, better have all components ready to test that thing, if you're going to buy refurb. Luckily for me, I've bought 2 refurb mobos with no probs, but 1xbad and 1xgood vid card. It's hit or miss, that's all. At least you can get your money back, though.

I love newegg refurbs. Over the years, the only bad thing I've gotten was a dead Sapphire Radeon 9500 np. Everything else has been great (which includes loads of motherboards, procs, video cards, hard drives, cases, keyboards, etc)

I?ve had great results purchasing newegg refurbished products, I?ve bought more than 75 mobo?s and never got a bad one. But be aware of their stated policy about refurbished products being OEM. If you can live with a oem purchase. Motherboards that are returns come with most extras, while factory refurb?s come with whatever the factory includes. I know ASUS factory refurb. motherboards come with only bare board, although you can call and get a free I/O shield. Video cards tend to have missing extras. I?ve also ordered more than 100 power supply and they seem to be about 10 to 15 percent bad. The ones I order are usually cheap enough that they are not worth the shipping to return. I just write them off. I?ve gotten a couple of bad cpu from them and returns were no problem. NewEgg is a honest company and will do what they say, but don?t expect to return something with a 14 day warranty that you didn?t bother testing until you had it 3 weeks. All in all new egg refurb?s have been very good to me.
