I'm in the market for an new nvidia based 754 board and have narrowed it down to these 2. These are the only boards that I have found that have all 4 nvidia SATA connectors along with any-drive RAID and good OC capabilities. So, if you had to choose, which would you go with?

You posted almost EXACTLY the same question I've been running through my mind the last few days, except I've been looking at the MSI S939 board.

DFI LanParty UT nF3 250Gb

Pro
More mature platform
More features than you can shake a stick at
Low return rate

Con
S754 platform - limited future upgradeability

MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum

Pro
S939 platform - newest processors, run cooler, less voltage
Approximately the same price as S754
More features than you can shake a stick at

Con
First-gen NF3 for S939 - buggy
Higher return rate than most S754
BH-5 memory problems
Antec power supply problems

As I plan on using both my Antec TruePower 550 and my 2x512 Mushkin 3500 lvl2 BH-5, I have a double-whammy chance of running into problems with the MSI. But I don't want to buy into the aging 754 if at all possible. Although, by the time I decide to upgrade again, I'll most likely be buying an SLI board anyhow.

As far as waiting for NF4 SLI boards, again you run the risk of opening the "first generation bugs" can of worms. Plus their $200+ pricetag is really putting me off. And the fact I'd need to purchase a PCI-E video card on top of the motherboard/CPU combo.

So I guess I'm kinda leaning towards the DFI, myself. In most cases it doesn't make a lot of sense to buy previous generation equipment if newer can be had for the same price, but in my case it's sort of a toss-up.

As far as your case, I've seen many good reviews of the DFI board and nearly everybody who has one seems happy with it. So I'd say go with the DFI.

The MSI board i'm looking at is the regular Neo, not the Neo2. I don't wanna fork out for a 939 CPU, thats why I'm looking to 754 for a solution. Both of these boards have good OC abilities that will allow me to stretch my NewCastle 3000+ out some. I've decided to go 939 when its time to build a whole new machine. By that time, SLI will have come down in price and will have proven to but a viable buy or not.

I'd really like an 754 base nForce 4 U board, but I don't think that will appear for a while, if at all

I also recall something about MSI boards lying about their FSB speeds lately?

Regardless, I'm heading for Nforce 4 myself, but if I were going for an NF3, I'd go with either Abit or Epox.

i think the consensus is that if you want to run stock you get the neo, but i own the dfi lanparty and because of the huge community over at dfi-street.com, i would have picked it even if i wasnt going to overclock.

I just built a new 64 system w/ the dfi lanparty board and i was going through the same pains of picking between the dfi or going 939, but the more mature stable option won over. this has been the easiest and most problem free build ever. not a single regret

Definately DFI.

Lots of people seem to be having problems with the nforce3 MSI boards, and I've had 2 MSI boards die on me before.

put my DFI in yesterday coming from the chaintech and i can easily say teh DFI si worth it. My OC takes less volts, i can OC higher now, Built-in firewall, stable, pretty looking, RUNNING THREE DS RAM STICKS,all around badass. It's teh best purchase I have EVER MADE for my computer.

Dont think about anything else, get teh DFI!!
