Hi, I finally jumped into the A64 platform coming from an XP 3200+. I got a DFI LanParty UT + Athlon 64 3200+ and for some reason, with any of my memory combinations (2x256MB OCZ PC3200) the bios and windows only reports 256MB of total memory, but CPU-Z reports that two of the dimm slots are filled. Any suggestions?

Take one out and run memtest on each seperately..

May also want to update your BIOS if memtest runs ok. I haven't heard anything specific about that, but you never know.

Thanks for the quick responses. The odd thing is that I could still run benchmarks and work normally. I put them back in my XP machine and it gets detected as 512MB. I don't think it's a driver issue cause the BIOS only detects 256MB, although whenever I try different combinations I get either DDR400 or DDR333 on the post. I thought that I shouldn't get DDR400 when there's more than 1 stick (at least I thought that's what I read). A dimm slot or two could be bad.

There doesn't seem to be a new BIOS on the DFI website. I will exchange the board tonight for the same one. If that doesn't work, then I might have to buy new memory then.

I will try memtest tonight as well.

You should be getting DDR400 if both sticks are PC3200 (400x8=3200). It might not be correctly reading SPD values off the RAM correctly. See what happens when you set the memory frequency manually. If that doesn't work, see if an older BIOS works. Then try exchanging the MB.

i found the problem: (i didn't know I had a single and a double rank dimms) Apparently the double rank dimm, even when inserted after the single rank, would take precedence and it would only get detected. I kept looking at the "dimms in bank" info box whenever the pc would finish posting. Whenever both of the dimms were plugged in, only the banks of the double rank would show.

I tried using the single rank SimpleTech 128MB PC2700 along with the single rank ocz 256MB, and they both get detected. I memtested the problematic DIMM, but found no errors. The response from DFI is contact OCZ. I'll be doing that, and while I wait, I'll be getting a 512MB PC3200 Kingston from Fry's today... hopefully that's also single sided.

Thanks again.
