in my bios there is an option for when the fan speeds up and slows down. every now and than i hear what i think is my chipset fan speeding way up for a while than slowing down is there anyway i can get this to just stay at one speed instead of doing speeding up

Why would you want to do that? It changes speeds for a reason, ya know. If you could do that and you keep it at a speed where it is nearly silent, when your cpu does intensive processing, it might heat up too much. More heat = degradation of components.

I set mine to shutoff at <30 and turn on fully >55. It rarely ever spins over 2000rpm and is now much, much quieter

This is after removing and replacing stock thermal grease with AS5. Just for fun once I bumped up chipset volts to 1.6v and turned off the fan...after about an hour of Prime, it finally reached 55C :)

definitely doesn't need to be running at 7000rpm or whatever
