DFI Lanparty Ultra-D chipset fan clearance

Can anyone please tell me what is the height of the chipset fan on the DFI Lanparty Ultra-D. I would like to upgrade but I have an Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 5 Rev .2 on a GTO2 which has a very low clearance above the mobo. It only just clears the fan on the Epox which is particularly slimline as a chipset hsf goes.

You might have to mod the bottom of the housing a little bit, like I did to mine - pic - note how the plastic nub has been shaved off.

^ That's the Silencer 5 Rev. 2 on an X850.

i put a x1900xt on the ultra-d and the card goes past the chipset fan, i dont see that clearance would be an issue.

Thanks for the picture. That's not the end of the world I guess.

yes you need to remove the small and then cut off the plastic protusion for it to fit with the chipset fan...this worked in my case....

I asked someone at XS about this and they also made a small hole in the artic silencer to allow some air to blow on the chipset which helped as well.

Does it make any difference which slot to fit the video card, other than blocking one of PCI slots on the lower of the 2? I have 2 PCI cards so cannot afford to lose a slot.

I also see with this board that the cpu socket is orientated 90 degrees to my Epox which would mean the cooler would be very close to a video card in the top slot. The AC Freezer Pro is designed to blow air from the hs to the back of the case - where I have an extraction fan expelling it to the outside. With the Ultra-D orientation, it will exhaust over the ram to the top of the case, or if reversed, onto the PCI-e cards. Neither option is ideal to say the least.

I have my X800XL with artic silencer 5 rev2 in slot one..I removed the screw and cut off the small nubbin and it sits on or 1mm above the DFI chipset HSF....I may try to remove the DFI HSF and replace with the evercool cooper HSF...but need to verify my videocard will still fit

from what I have be told supposedly if you use pcie slot 2 there is a small performance hit but people only see it in benches not real time games!!???

The Freezer Pro is also designed so you can unscrew it's mounting bits and rotate them 90 degrees. 😀

I did this and have it on my NF4 Ultra-D, w/ the airflow directed to the back case fan. It does overhang the nearest memory slot such that you have to put the memory in first, then attach the Freezer Pro, but that's a small price to pay for such a quiet and effective device.

Cheers Funk, I wondered if that was the case. How does that work then? I cant see the below the hs to work it out. It looks like the heat pipes would get in the way. I'll take your word for it though.

A question about the chipset hsf - it looks like it has a protruding flange although its impossible to tell from the arial view. Is this the case? Would this interfere with the ATI cooler or is the fan itself just too high.

I am also considering the RDX200. Is the extra expense worth it over the Ultra-D?

Edit: Just read the Anandtech review of the RDX200. Forget that.

I got a 6% hit in 3DMark using PCIE slot 2 on my Ultra-D, but in certain games (Guild Wars for one) performance was attrocious. PCIE slot 1 puts the vid card on top of the chipset cooler, but at least I don't get a performance hit.

I had an X800XL with an AC ATI Silencer 5 ref 2 on it in slot 1, and I don't remember having any clearance issues with the chipset fan.

Did you enable SLI when you switched slots? If not the performance hit was from running at PCIe x4 instead of x8.

Evercool fits fine if the nubbin is gone, same height as the DFI cooler. I put one onto my board w/o issues.

Painman, did you remove the cooler from the card to cut off that screw housing? What did you use to cut it?

Yeah, I had it off at the time. I used a Dremel.

well I put the cooler on first and realized the nubbin was an issue..I used a "wire cutter" and it cut very easily ..just remove the screw first...

Painman ..thank I will swap out my DFI HSF for the Evercool and see what happens
