I got my EVGA 8800GTX from ewiz. They're owned by MA LABS, one of the big distributors on the west coast. Shipping can be high sometimes, but prices are almost always as good or better than the egg. For instance, the 2x1GB Supertalent CL5 Rigid DDR2-667 for $99 bucks a short while back. Some folks got this up past 1000Mhz.

Well, the order through DFI idea didn't work out too well. It was like pulling teeth to get the tracking number. They shipped it later than originally quoted and now it's going to take 1 week to move 1 state. I blame my own impatience for this as a friend of mine waited for ewiz and will be receiving it tomorrow. :(

Thank God! As cool as e-SATA looks, it's not worth the trouble it's been giving people.

damnit, I wanted it until I found out it was Crossfire.
I don't ever expect to use SLI, but I want an SLI system. However.. would there be any performance hits if using an nVidia card on a ATi platform, specifically Crossfire related?

I definitely am considering this board. Cant wait for it to be out. I need to see some reviews though.

One of the main reasons for my purchase of this board is that it has the Intel ICH8R chipset, with internal built in proprietary Matrix Raid. I have been using the DS3's in all and various revisions for about six months now whiich have the "normal" RAID's. I am not a user that would have any need to use RAID, so the JM RAID option is never configured in my DS3 systems, I just have it set on AHCI. And the Intel SATA part of the DS3 ICH8 SATA is just in IDE emulation mode, no AHCI, no RAID. (tho AHCI can actually be gotten on Intel by a driver hack).

However, I ran accross this long thread on the matrix boosted RAID modes and was quite surprised at how much better iit is than "unassisted" RAID modes. When I saw 996MB/s burst modes, I said holy guacamole. So while I am happy with the DS3's, I definitely want to Martix RAID a couple of drives. I may even go whole hog and buy a few raptors. Should be interesting to see if one can sense a huge difference in felt response.

I think DFI is going to be surprised at how many of these boards they will sell. Many say they are too late, but I dont think so. The "R" chip comes with more expensive boards, so this is really a bargain at $139, and when it comes down to $125 it will be a hot deal.
Its a full size ATX board - not like the "modified" ATX DS3.- 9.6" vs 8.4".
Plus the IDE molex is not in the wrong place.
And there wont be any install hassles since the JM 368 chip is IDE only - all drivers will be full RAID SATA Intel on all six ports, and the JM will run on legacy MS IDE if you cant figure out how to load the JM ones.

If it overclocks as good as DS3, or even nearly as good, its a no brainer.

Bozo Galora, thanks for the link to that thread on Matrix RAID. I'm reading it now. Because I had no intent to go all out and do hardware RAID with a PCIe controller, I wanted an ICH8R southbridge since it significantly outperformed nVidia's on-board solution. But I didn't realize just how good this Matrix RAID can be.

But I've had a P965-S here since last Friday, and it still sits in its box, awaiting a processor. It's a real battle fighting down the urge to pay the current $25 premium on the E6420. But I won't have the time to fiddle with this stuff at any length anyway during the next week and a half, so guess the holding pattern will continue....
