DF Daily (12/02)

Hi Folders,

Well, CASP 5 is coming up! Here's where we'll see results of the last few months of folding. Hopefully, we'll do quite well. If the new sampling method does improved performance as expected, I imagine that the next protein will do will be one from CASP 5, pseudo-blind. Good times for DF ahead, I hope. BTW, we have already done more than 90% of the current protein, so look for the change to go down next week.

Have fun, racers! 😀

Today's stats are Dyyryath's since statsman's been redirecting me to F@H team pages.

Milestone makers:

ATWE Insidious makes 60M folds! 😕

ATWE Robor makes 40M folds!

ATWE LastKnight makes 5M folds! 😎
ATWE Terrahawk makes 2M folds! 😀😀
ATWE Freewolf makes 200K and 300K folds! 🙂🙂🙂

Congrats to the milestone makers! 🙂

FoBoT: 607M, getting back into gear, I see. 3M folds for the day (nice!), good for 6th! 🙂 RMS hasn't moved yet, still good for 39th!

Non-FoBoT:
Top Folder: Kris with 89M folds! Nice. That is good for 88th! 😀
Best RMS: ATWE Insidious maintains his hold with his 9.64, now good for 121st! 😎
Best Production: ATWE bfour makes some dumps to take the pole position. 1.4M for the day puts him in <can't find it!> Doesn't matter! Nice numbers! 😉

Producers Of the Day:

FoBoT 3M 😛
ATWE bfour 1.4M 😛
kmmatney 725K 😛
Kris 709K 😛
ATWE Robor 629K 😛
ATWE LastKnight 610K 😛
ATWE Insidious 593K 😛
ATWE Terrahawk 590K 😛
ATWE ReaganCRW 528K 😛

Congrats to the POD's! 😛😛😛

TeAm Stuff:

10th and climbing, as always. Rechenkraft seems to be mounting an attack though. They put out 15.5M 🙂Q) folds today, so we've got to pick up the pace!!!

Daily Production: Great improvement over the last couple days, as we increased our production by nearly 50%! 😀 We put out 12.5M today, which is very respectable, and puts us into 4th! 😎

Have fun,

Moti

Thanks m0ti!

Go bfour Go! great day man 😎

and finally, oh lord, FINALLY found that 60M milestone........ 🙂 w00t 🙂

and I see Robor found a BIG one too! WTG!

those 10Meggers are HARD!

Congrats to all the MMs and PODs 😎

ATWE's still awful tight at the top.... my heels are sore from all of you nipping at them... LEAVE ME ALONE 😛

and..... not to forget.... Woof! Woof! 😀

Oh, I almost did forget to mention, the next protien will be 129AA again, but with a new sampling algorithm which is 'supposed' to be much faster.....

Would've been nice if the daily stats would have waited for the 2100 statsman!:| Staggered the dumps to cover each six hour period! Would have been fine if the 2100 was used, then all the dumps would have been legal, but such is racing!:disgust: Will have to find more machines to add to the herd! Have 3 P4 2.4's to work on, so it looks like they are next! WTG to everyone else, good day in production looks like the next few days we will move up another spot! Watch out Sid, now I'm on a mission for #1!😀

it would have been the same either way bfour. It's a 'rolling' 24 hours.... there is no start or stop to it.

you did good though.... you kept the second two! 🙂

good job to all the MM's 😉

no uber dump tonight, somebody dorked the firewall and i didn't discover it until all the firewall dorks had left for the day, so i will have to collect those turkey weekend structures tomorrow

things are on track for a Dec 10th protein change, but with howard and company in California for the CASP5 conference, i think he may delay it a week, being all tuckered out from his trip and such, but we will see, i expect an announcement by sunday/monday at the latest (just guessing though)

WooHoo! Passed the 40M milestone! Congrats to all the other MM'ers!

BTW - I stopped by work on my day off and found 1 or maybe 2 clients not running correctly. I stopped/restarted the service on both of them so hopefully I'll be adding a machine or two back to the fold, literally. 😉

Thanks m0ti!

Edit: Another WooHoo! on being 3rd! 😀

Congratz to all the MM's and POD's! 😀 Thanks m0ti! 😎

I'm trying to squeeze some more folds from my machine, but so far its cost me more than its gained. I put a new sound card into my machine and disabled the onboard audio. With the onboard audio disabled, I thought I'd make a second attempt at 2.7GHz@DDR400, so I upped the voltage back to 1.62v raised the FSB another 5MHz to 150 and fired her up. I was expecting a 3-4% increase in DF performance, but instead got closer to 10% :Q Unfortunately, its not 100% stable and the DF client crashes every 5-6 hours, so I'm gonna have to set it back a notch because I'm not willing to up the voltage any more (at least not until I've seen guys with higher voltage running their machines longer). I'm still on the stock HSF so I think that temps may be my enemy, as I'm running at 53C which might be enough to cause a few errors. I've heard that if you plug the CPU fan to a regular 3pin fan connector on the motherboard that it would run the fan at full speed, does anybody know if this is true?

Yessss! 😀
Another couple of machines with the service installed...

Number Nine now! Good going, team!!! How far until we reach 8th, I wonder....

We're outproducing all but the top 2 teams (out of the top 10) by a pretty good margin. Dyyrath's stats predicts we'll move into 7 place in 10 days 😀

So, if there's a new protein coming up soon, how does that get downloaded to your clients? I'm going to try to avoid repeated downloads as at least one of my locations has only a dialup connection and I'm thinking that I'd rather go around and manually install the updated files.

your choices are:

automatic update-
allow automatic updating
without your intervention required, simply create a text file in the same
directory as the client, called "autoupdate.cfg" with the the digit 1 on a
single line.

manual-
right before the servers shutdown for the changeover, manually stop all of your clients, check and make sure all your structures are uploaded. delete the software. after the server comes back up, download the new client software and install fresh

Auto-update Daemon
(for users with lots of machines)-
basically a local proxy server for updates, only one way (down, not up) - the software download page has links to download the Daemon

i prefer the manual method, due to my obsessive/anal/control freak nature 😱
but it takes a lot of time/effort
the autoupdate is fairly reliable now, although a few people occasionally have trouble and have to do a manual re-install

another option would be to manually hack out the new files and just update those, do that at your own risk

The client checks for updates every time it uploads. You may just want to do your uploads normally from the dial-up connection and let it do it's thing!

If it's a sneaker, then I'd d/l it to a floppy and do it manually where necessary.

I've had pretty good luck with the auto updates. I think I'm about 3 out of 4 were seamless. It is important to check all your clients after the protien change to make sure all is beloved patriot dorey!

(for ATWE, updating issues will probably be a good excuse for the cops... if you have difficulties and get a ticket (because I was an idiot and didn't figure out it wasn't your fault) just PM me and we'll do the "common sense thingy")
