Did they develop a new engine for Deus Ex 2 or are they licensing one that's already available, like UT2k3's?

I believe they're using the Unreal 2/UT2003 engine and modifying it for their purposes.

I'm just playing the first Deus Ex for the second time and I'm having a blast. I can't wait for the second one. :)

I never did play the 1st, it would not run well AT ALL on my radeon 7000. Maybe I needed a patch as I hear they optimized it heavily for the voodoo line of cards (which I believe because the game ran playably on my dad's voodoo 1 machine... :p)

I'll prolly try it again with a 9700 before the sequel arrives.

Oh and thanks BFG. That engine is pretty nice :)

No game will run well on a Radeon 7000. And yeah, pick up the latest patch and then switch the game to OpenGL rendering.

I'm running it at 1600 x 1200 x 32 with 16x AF on my 9700 Pro and it runs pretty well.

Pretty well? Uh, if it doesn't run flawlessly i'd say there's something seriously wrong with your system ;)

As for the R7000 not running anything well, that just isn't true! It's been a nice little card, if you're alright with running Q3 engine games @ 640x480 with medium settings. Which I am :)

It ran WC3 well too.

For $80 back in 2001, it was a worthwhile purchase. I'd still be using it today if I hadn't upgraded my wife's GF2 MX400 card to a r9700 non-pro and taken the GF2 for myself, heh.

Is there an option inside the game to set the AA that high?

I used that wording on purpose because while it runs fine, there are newer and more demanding games that run much better. The newest patch helps a lot but the fact is that it's not an optimal engine to begin with.

I own a Radeon 7000 and after testing it I wouldn't even run GLQuake on it.

It ran WC3 well too.
I played about a third of the WC3 campaign on it and even at 640 x 480 x 16 it had problems when the action got too heavy.

The 7000 is a nice 2D/DVD card but if you plan on gaming on it you should look elsewhere.

It's AF and no, there are no game options to control AA or AF so you should use your driver control panel instead.

Hmm, were you using a different 7000 than myself? It ran WC3 well all the way through the campaign and in every one of the dozens of mplayer games.

Gotcha.

Lol, I gamed heavily on the 7000 (32mb ddr) for 2 yrs with no complaints.

Yeah, haven't seen any myself and, owning that card, i've never even attempted to increase those settings ;)

It sounds to me like you're using the original Radeon 32 MB DDR. That is not the same as the 7000, even though the drivers might say it is.

The Radeon 7000 is 64 MB DDR but it has only one rendering pipeline and disabled T&L and as a result it really is a horribly crippled card for 3D gaming. The original Radeon (32 MB DDR) is much more powerful, though obsolete by today's standards as well.

What I get from the details that have been released is that the engine has been heavily modified, so that it is as different from UT2003 as Half-Life was to Quake II. The renderer and physics systems are new, so don't expect that a PC that could run UT2003 can run Deus Ex 2. I think the current build is getting about 30fps on a Geforce 3 at 640x480.
