when you start the game, you have enough skill points to give denton 2 or 3 skill upgrades. i personally gave one to the handgun, one to computers and one to security stuff, which seems like a reasonable distribution to be effective early on. while this works fine for the most part, the handgun accuracy is embarrassingly bad for a "highly trained agent". you have to wait SEVERAL SECONDS for the aiming cursor to lock on fully (to give you a decent chance of hitting someone beyond point blank range), which IMO is totally unreasonable. and even then, he'll still miss because the accuracy of your handgun is like 70%. and if you dare move, the cursor becomes totally inaccurate and you couldn't hit the ground if you tried.

fortunately, it only takes 1 or 2 missions before you can collect enough skill points to upgrade the gun ability one more point to where it becomes more acceptable. moreover, 1 head shot or a couple body shots are typically lethal to unarmored opponents, so you don't need to be perfectly accurate to still be effective.

this game, even with the dated graphics, is still a blast to play. it's not perfect, as the voice acting and immersion of the game could be a bit better (especially denton himself, who is super monotone) but the gameplay is simply unrivaled.

For a real challenge, try playing the game without killing anyone - only incapacitate.

The only place I actually had to kill someone was escaping the hotel with Paul and leaving through the front door (there may have been a handful of other kills along the way, but it was pretty much 99% knockouts).

You're entitled to your opinion, but that's the cardinal sin of Deus Ex commentary right there ;). All I can say is, most won't agree and I've seen some extremely good arguments put together, with screenshots to prove why most won't agree. Most people view DX2 as an incredibly dumbed down version of the first one. They dumbed it down to the point where you could barely call it a FPS/RPG hybrid that the first one helped coin (along with SS2).

I have done it but was not able to save Paul.
Had to haul butt outside his window immediately.
The MIB's explode when dropped and they kill the surrounding troopers.

I got a lot of experience with that one section of the game. I was trying to save Pauls life and it took a while to figure out that nailing the assault team isnt enough. You also have to exit through the front door. I must have formed a half dozen different strategies for dealing with the level.

You can go through the game without killing anyone except for Anna Navarre and Howard Strong. The latter can be killed without weapons (by dropping a crate or something on his head), but you have to fight Anna as far as I know.

Yeah, actually I just stuck a couple of proximity mines on the wall outside of Lebedev's (sp?) cabin on the plane before she arrived. Anne didn't have much to say after that.

So it wasn't really a direct kill.

Deads Dead.
And this game rewards brains a LOT more than balls.

Not to mention that you could actually hit something when you first started in DX2, unlike the billion dollar government agent in the original that couldn't hit the broadside of a barn on Liberty Island while any common street terrorist could score headshots while running from a distance.

Superior weaponry like the assassin pistol you don't get until the last 1/3 of the game? Yeah, after a point the weapons are good enough in DX2 but in the beginning they're just weak. The pistol in DX1 is very inaccurate without being advanced level in the pistol skill, I agree. However, waiting a couple seconds to get a one shot kill is much better than firing a pistol several times accurately.

Never really had a problem with accurate NSF terrorists... in fact, often you could stand right in front of them and they'd miss every other shot.

For a real real challenge, try Deus Ex Alginon style.

Kill phrase on Anna, baby :)

Maybe I'll dust off this game so I have something to play on my crappy Wal-Mart laptop :p

Can't believe I forgot about that. You're right, the killswitch works on her.

Invisible War's weapons were a mixed bag. I found the shotgun overpowered and almost everything else too weak, especially the flamethrower and mag rail. The shotgun did a fair bit of damage at medium ranges and could kill most guys in one or two shots at close range, and it also didn't use much ammo. The sniper rifle was messed up as it hardly did anything if you fired it normally but became very powerful if you looked through the scope. :p

To be fair the first game didn't have the best weapon balance either (pistol a bit too powerful, assault rifle and plasma gun not enough so), but it was still a lot better than IW.

If she doesn't die in the Lebedev plane or in the Battery park metro station, she shows up in the UNATCO building. In that map, use the computer across from Sam Carter's office and the one in Manderley's office to get both parts of the code (Flatlander woman) and then talk to her.

The way IW ended was really cheesy. The whole level was like a giant Lazy Susan - pick your ending.

The levels were also tiny because of Xbox memory limitations.

interesting, i'd always wondered how to use the killphrase... i love how flexible the game is - how you can fight this important character in 3 totally different locations, how you can explore as much or as little as you want and how every action you do (or don't do) seems to have an impact on later parts of the game. i think gamerevolution's review said it best: deus ex has the most fully realized game world ever.
